The text this Sunday includes "turn the other cheek". This is not a call to be a doormat for violence. This is a call to resist returning hate with hate or violence with violence. It is not our nature... but grace is God's nature.
Genesis 1 is used in anti-trans rhetoric: "gender is binary". God creates light and dark, yet we enjoy twilight and dusk. Water and land, but we have marshes and bayous. We celebrate diversity of animals yet deny diversity in humanity. Stop using scripture to justify your judgement and your hate.
The government has been removing all references to transgender people from all its websites. All uses of LGBTQ+ have been replaced with LGB. They just removed the trans references on the Stonewall website. I am so enraged by this attempt to erase, not just history, but trans people themselves.
Before folks start comparing this to European autocracies, pause and ask why so many folks - Black and white - didn’t know about the Tulsa Race Massacre. Or the Wilmington Coup. Or the Colfax Massacre. Or the Elaine, Arkansas massacre.
Erasure has been a key tactic of white supremacy. Right here.

As a pastor, I have always seen myself as bringing people together. Crossing the aisle. Finding the middle ground, the reconciliation and the loving compromise. I don't know how to do that right now. It feels like being in an abusive relationship with someone gaslighting me the whole time.
