Baseball "poses as a sacred institution dedicated to the public good, but it is actually a big, selfish business with a ruthlessness that many big businesses would never think of displaying." — Jackie Robinson

Fun fact: The Rangers' majority owner co-founded Energy Transfer, which built and operates the Dakota Access Pipeline. Rangers players wear Energy Transfer logo patches on their jerseys as part of a sponsorship deal.
Energy Transfer is currently on the verge of bankrupting Greenpeace in the U.S.
Last week was Jackie Robinson Day. I wrote about the Texas Rangers, whose oil billionaire owner spat on Jackie's legacy by installing a statue modeled after a segregationist.
Almost like the folks fueling the climate crisis aren't big on racial justice. www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/jackie-rob...

Watched the premiere, so good. Lightning strikes twice.
I hadn’t read it until recently and just kept thinking, if Jackie said or did this stuff today, he’d be one of the most divisive figures in American sports. Not sure how anyone can faithfully celebrate Jackie’s legacy without acknowledging that sports are highly political.
My advice for baseball fans on Jackie Robinson Day: If you haven’t read it, check out Jackie’s autobiography, “I Never Had It Made.” Jackie was extensively and publicly involved in politics, before and during and after his MLB career, and he wanted people to know it.
Very much appreciate @katearonoff.bsky.social questioning whether we actually need all these data centers. Too often taken for granted in energy policy circles that the only question is how to mitigate the impacts/extract benefits. newrepublic.com/article/2089...
