Some models suggest widespread 1.5-2" the week ending May 1, which would be above average for that 7 day period -- a welcome change. Won’t fix the drought overnight, but it’s a start.

Temperatures plunge into 20s and 30s; record low set at Dulles Airport

Most areas outside Beltway dipped to 25-30, while the mercury bottomed out in the low to mid-30s inside Beltway,

Dulles’s low of 27 broke the previous calendar day record of 29 from 1983.

From the 80s to FREEZING?

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for areas west of I-95 from 2 to 10 a.m. Tuesday for temperatures as low as 29 to 32 degrees. In some areas, this freeze is coming up to 10 days later than the typical last freeze.

Severe drought has expanded into parts of DC area as record heat and low humidity increase the fire risk.

The latest US Drought Monitor, released Thu AM, shows S&E portions of the region in Severe Drought. That's one level worse than the Moderate Drought most of the region was under a week ago.
