All I could think of was the amount of personhours being wasted because people were artificially forced to wait for elevators because His Majesty deemed it so, and how wasteful the whole exercise in elitism was.

Did he actually complain, or did someone who saw me think they were doing "the right thing"? No clue, but I wouldn't do anything differently. It's asinine, classist bullshit that I'm not willing to entertain.

I got HR involved and repeatedly forced the question of "what exactly was the terminable offense and where is this policy recorded." No one could answer, and his admin who adored me for some reason intervened and I only had to write a very formal apology letter.

Less than an hour later my boss calls my cell for an emergency meeting. Turns out that there's an unwritten rule that no one rides the elevator with the president unless invited. I had no idea 1) about the ridiculous rule or 2) that he was the president

Sure, it's pretty straightforward. Worked at a place with multiple buildings and was sent to the building where most of the VPs etc work to do an IT install. Rode the elevator up with a stranger, offered a 'good morning' like a reasonable professional would. Thought nothing of it.

Remembering that time I almost lost my job because I had the temerity to ride an elevator with the president of the organization. Sorry I didn't recognize him outside of his ivory tower and endangered him by putting him in proximity to A Poor.
