It's just a comforting bedtime story they tell themselves so they don't have to confront their own use of privilege to dominate others. Like slaveholders of yore.

You don't find the improbable by pursuing only the probable.

LLM's can be so annoying in how much they ask you to see the other person's perspective and how quickly they call you out on the claims unsupported by reality you are making. The fact this admittedly rational advice is coming from a neural net that has read and seen everything gives me pause.

But I suppose the current Supreme Court will figure out a way to block that law. What have you done John? Is it too late for you to have your Scrooge moment?

A new law should be passed in 2027 (with that unvetoable majority that hopefully will be Trump's near-term legacy) that requires the president to appoint a new member for at least six years starting in 2029.

The New York Times outing the hypocrisy of John Roberts is a good thing? If the Supreme Court is nothing more than a partisan legislative review body, we need to increase our representation on it.

We just had 1/3 of Hüsker Du in our talent show. And I was half a century away from being able to join him on that stage (or think I could join him).

it’s so funny that the drunk tv host in charge of the military is like “real warriors don’t need vaccines” when all the greatest generals in history would have done anything for a jab that kept their armies safe from disease

I do not understand scheduling the end of a war based on a calendar, like it was a TV series. At least Reagan would have treated it like a movie production that needs to finish the whole movie.

It can both reduce paralyzing concerns and then inflate the ones that are left. Give it a try as long as you are willing to
quit. A paradox huh?

Her project directly tests what many geneticists + biologists have been observing: LLMs will, with very little promptly, direct users to information about human genetics and evolution that is at best outdated and biased, and at worst actively promotes scientific racism.

Scientific racism sounds like a euphemism for eugenics which is a euphemism for racism. And it hasn’t left Silicon Valley since Jane Stanford got poisoned to very likely stop her from derailing the university president’s initial attempts to recruit eugenic academics.

RFK Jr was doing everything he could to diminish the perception of the one clearly good thing the first Trump administration did, the covid vaccine. A bunch of flattery over that might have convinced him to back off on the muckraking of RFK Jr.

This seems like the start of media manipulation to oust him.

Prince and Michael, both my age, were early advocates for physician assisted suicide. Too early.

Or I should say I'm trying to learn that skill.

What I've come to understand is that a deadline allows you to ignore everything else in your life, which is a sort of freedom. But the skill I needed to learn to avoid (the equivalent) of near midnight dashes to the post office is ongoing self-imposed artificial deadlines.

My father was always deadline driven, couldn't finish anything until he had to. He was extremely aware of where the last Post Office was open on April 15th in the Twin Cities (used to be downtown St. Paul, now MSP).

Could we be in this war until 2029? Now that we’ve openly joined Israel in their usual ceasefires that never cease I can see that happening.

When a person loses 1 sense the others are heightened. That's why people who have no sense of humor have an amazing sense of self-importance.

I saw swordfishtrombones at the California Roots Festival in Monterey. They’re on the same label as the remnants of subterraneanlime.

Looks like the start of a children’s book. The Railcar That Lost Its Train.

Or is it a price-sensitivity indicator? How much is a ticket now?

I think the top half and the bottom half of the number are separate pieces, and they are fastened to a center rod. When the number goes up by one the top half swings down, flipping to show the new lower half and thus exposing the new upper half.

So will the governor of Minnesota call for a special session so the Minnesota House can impeach him? Only if they do it fast enough so he can have the summer off I imagine.

The new auto-hold mechanism on the iPhone is rather amazing. What an idea to have the phone listen to that horrible upbeat music instead of me for the half hour it takes to get through.

Ah I get it. GitHub cornered the market on free software facilitation and used it to sell to the original 800 lb gorilla of software. But I’ve never paid a dime to GitHub (or Sourceforge before that). And the software I’ve kept building since the late 80’s is still free to me and others.
