I have made the difficult decision not to run for Mayor of Los Angeles. My family has experienced the unimaginable loss of our beloved daughter Emily. She was a magical person, the light of our lives. We are still in mourning. A successful campaign, and more importantly the job of Mayor, requires someone who is committed 24/7 to the job. Family has always come first for me. That is where I need to be at this time. Los Angeles is a special place, but every day it’s becoming less affordable, less safe and a more difficult place to live. To solve these problems, new ideas are needed along with leadership capable of implementing them. I’m grateful for the many people from all walks of life who saw this in me and supported our campaign. In time, I hope to continue my efforts to make sure Los Angeles’ best days are ahead of us. We ask you to respect our privacy and keep us in your prayers. Thank you Austin

On the one-year anniversary of the Palisades and Eaton Fires, we honor the lives lost and remember the families impacted by these tragedies. I’m holding them in my thoughts today.
The Palisades fire wasn't a "natural” disaster. Had many issues been handled better, the outcome would likely have been different.
We need to know the facts so nothing like this happens again.

This week marks one year since the tragic fire in Pacific Palisades. 12 people died and many thousands lost their homes and jobs.
Due to Mayor Bass' continued missteps, the situation remains a crisis. Here’s how we can move forward: www.dailynews.com/2026/01/04/a...

Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating in LA. Our communities have shown amazing strength and resilience through a difficult year. May Christmas be a day of comfort, joy, and love.
Barely half of kids in LA live within walking distance of a park. Here’s my plan to create places for kids to play in their own neighborhood.
No new taxes or fees, just better use of what we already have.
Mayor Bass says that the buck stops with her.
This cover-up is on her watch.
LA Times: LAFD watered down the Palisades after-action report to downplay the failures of city leadership.
Why would Mayor Bass allow this cover up?
12 people died while thousands lost their homes and jobs. Yet there is still no accountability.
In a recent OpEd, Mayor Bass says the City is making progress on homelessness. That’s not supported by the facts:

Thank you @nickkristof.bsky.social for supporting Vision to Learn, an organization I founded to help provide millions of kids in low-income communities with eye exams and glasses.
Only 60% of LA's streets are in good shape:
People in Los Angeles agree, they want change. 71% of voters think the city is headed in the wrong direction.
Shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Michele and Rob Reiner.
Their absence will be deeply felt in Los Angeles. May their legacy continue to inspire efforts to make the world a better place.
Hanukkah is a celebration of resilience.
As we light the first candle in the shadow of the attack in Australia, we are reminded that in times of darkness there is still light to be found.
Los Angeles hasn’t fully repaved a single street since June, almost 6 months. Oren Hadar tells me how he found out about this.
Los Angeles has the most traffic and pedestrian deaths in the nation.
Voters overwhelmingly passed Measure HLA to make our streets safer, but Mayor Bass has failed to implement the law.
Proud of my friend and Prop 28 teammate, Josue Luis Mancia. Every child should have the opportunity to participate in arts and music at school.

While Netflix’s proposed purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery reinforces LA’s role as the center of the global entertainment industry, I’m concerned about the impact further consolidation will have on jobs in our community.

LA is now 100% coal free.
Delighted to see the plans we put in place are being realized. In 2010, as LA’s First Deputy Mayor, I led the work with IPA that laid the foundation for this milestone transition.
Proud of the people at DWP who made this happen.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. I’m thankful for so many who are working on this holiday, from street vendors and bus drivers to nurses and firefighters.
LA’s emergency alert system apparently fell short again. Late warning, late all-clear. We’ve seen this problem before. Next time, it could be catastrophic.

LA’s ambulance response times have become much slower over the past decade and continue to get worse under Mayor Bass, putting people’s lives at risk. Visit austinforla.com to see how long it takes for an ambulance to arrive in your neighborhood.
Angelenos deserve the truth.
We need a truly independent commission to review what happened before, during and after the fires, to ensure it never happens again.
