I have used one! They smell like memory loss

I have appointments this week! The kind check-in person will nod sagely, having seen this a million times. “It’s OK, we’ll bill you later.”

I don’t HAVE to have anxiety about this! We could live in a country where some kind of weird LLC to C-Corp paperwork filing doesn’t result in a letter saying “we’re cancelling your health insurance.”

The money to do it was always there!

I know everything’s going to be OK! I’m probably going to get new insurance cards in tomorrow’s mail, effective April 1.

But the fact that I have to say “probably” in that sentence IS THE PROBLEM.

Here’s an American Problem: The company I work for is doing some kind of jiggery-pokery with the corporate entity that … I don’t know, envelops the company, and it means that I got a notice in the mail that my health insurance was cancelled as of March 31.

I'm old enough to remember Governor Swarzenegger's term, and how very little a Republican governor can expect to accomplish in California. The legislature is powerful here, and so are the unions. I think his most significant legislative victory was repealing a vehicle license fee increase.

If you stay Downtown there's a lot within walking distance -- a lot of the hotels have shuttles to and from the airport.

Before 9/11, at LAX there was a cart that would take you between terminals that went out where the planes were. I got to my terminal and a guy asked me my airline.

I pointed to the United plane parked right there and said “United.”

Guy said “nope” and shut the door on me, leaving me outside
