NZ officials say a minerals deal could impact NZ’s other international obligations and relationships.

The NZ Herald says other risks were redacted from documents supplied by MBEI, and some information was supplied by mistake, which they then requested be deleted.

NZ officials say the deal may raise public concerns and risk public social licence. Māori stakeholder groups have identified concerns with engagement with the USA given ‘recent geopolitical developments’ (for example, its bombing of Iran).

The USA’s stated focus of their use of ‘critical’ minerals is military technologies - which isn’t aligned with New Zealand’s stated focus of a clean energy transition.

The Government has allowed the Ruataniwha Dam to be brought back to life, through the Fast Track Approvals Act - despite the Supreme Court shutting it down in 2017.

The supermarket trip that led to Fonterra admitting its “100% New Zealand Grass Fed” claim is misleading and deceptive - Greenpeace Aotearoa One day in October 2023 I was walking down the supermarket aisle when I saw greenwashing in plain sight.
