Forget about getting a straight word out of the guy, I’d just like to see him make a good decision for a change

This could easily be a headline that says ‘TVNZ successfully passes enshitification test’

We know he’s genuinely and irrevocably embattled when it’s the headline in the international media

National in the Luxon years is the dog that caught the car. They were chasing it but have no idea what to do with it.

That’s a noble and just cause, and we should all lean into it

It’s really hard to tell … are they whistling past the graveyard, knowing full well the disaster is coming, or do they actually think they have nothing more dangerous than a thorny communications issue and all they need is a really clever media release. It’s impossible to say

Time will tell, and I suspect the fuel supply collapse will be rather like Hemingway’s description of going broke: slowly, at first, then suddenly, all at once

Exactly this. Luxon thinks he’s still a CEO so he can fire the dissenters, and has yet to realize that the dissenters can fire him

If the oil crisis turns into a full blown food crisis and national disaster in the next few months, the National Party will be wiped out at the next election and will never recover. So yeah, this might be a good time to get out

What I’d say to you is that it doesn’t matter who’s in charge from National because we’re just the obedient lap-dogs of Winston and Seymour and will do whatever we’re told no matter who is PM

I’m not sure the knighthood really matters all that much … ‘Sir Christopher Luxon was the worst PM in AoNZ history’ isn’t that different from plain old ‘Christopher Luxon was the worst PM in AoNZ history’

And banks can decide not to let people open accounts for any reason they like - which is why around 50,000 people are completely un-banked. Having a bank account needs to be a human right, not something that can be taken away at the whim of a banker

I once read that the cause of grief is the love we still feel but can find no way to express for someone who is no longer here

I wonder at the intelligence of anyone who would piss off a *librarian*. Aside from being lovely people, they've successfully shared more knowledge and fomented more revolutions than we can point a stick at

This. Totally this

Given the behaviour of Trump et al and the impact on little old AoNZ, being a Republican should be grounds for them being declared persona non grata and immediately deported at their own expense

Brian Eno described the Internet as "a machine for concentrating prejudice", and it's hard to argue with that definition when it comes to FB

Is it still 'reading' if he's just had ChatGPT summarise them into a paragraph and perhaps listened to half a podcast episode with the author?

A very nice response ... and @clintvsmith.bsky.social could also have pointed out that in normal households we don't rob the teenagers and young adults to give money to the lazy rich uncles and handouts to the deadbeats selling tobacco to our friends

I love the American tourists wandering our neighbourhood ... no, you can't use US cash here because it's not real money in this country. Yes, you've come a long way because we're at the bottom of the South Pacific. Yes, it is different to America because that's the actual point of travel

A friend's Pekinese was grabbed by two rampaging Emperor penguins on a beach just the other week, and the camera at Scott Base showed them dismembering it on the ice just a few days later. Horrifying stuff

We all know that Aunties basically run AoNZ so I think there should be a political party that’s nothing but Aunties, and they should wield absolute power, because then things would get done and stay done

Ah, so this is why Ministers have been making the trek to Washington … to ensure there’s sufficient jet fuel available in December

Describing them as ‘self-interested arse-licking ladder-lifting lackeys of the mega-wealthy’ is almost Hera Lindsay Bird levels of pin-point accuracy

Yeah, I was just having problems matching people to donations, that's all.

And for the record, I think Opportunity should have declined the donation from Cartmell - he's a weirdo and it stinks. It was a really bad decision by the Opportunity board

So who's the anonymous donor who is matching campaign contributions to the Greens? I've been to so many Green Party conferences where this was the case, but I've never figured out who it actually is

I know you're not an Opportunity fan, but they do seem to have the strongest platform for donation and transparency reform when it comes to campaign donations. And accusing them of not walking the talk does seem a bit like criticising the Greens for using carbon when campaiging

Opportunity has been entirely transparent about who the donor is, and people can make up their own minds about the wisdom or otherwise of that. But if there's anonymity, that degree of accountability is lost

2 days ago 1 0 1 0

My point is that if anonymous donations are acceptable, we don't know anything about how sparkly clean or entirely dodgy the donors are - and that applies equally to the Greens. Personally, I think all donations should be public, and hard donation limits apply, as in Ireland
