Whenever I start to doubt whether 7-year-old me would be proud of grown-up me, I think about describing to her all the books I've read and smelt and collected. She'd be pretty impressed, and that makes me feel like I've honoured her.

I just wrote a column on SA yesterday, although i doubt i e articulatedsome of these issues as well as you have.

Like you, I'm all for restorative justice and giving people the opportunity to do better. The other side of me, perhaps less gracious, is screaming "Burn the f***ing boy's club!"

Remorse would = accepting having one's name associated with one's wrongdoing. Remorse would = not just paying the court imposed fine, but donating to sexual harm charities and educating oneself in the long term.

Anyone who understands what real accountability is could see that, surely?

What gets me is the refrain in those letters (as reported in NZH) of how he's remorseful and wants to make good.

Remorse ≠ seeking permanent name suppression and discharge without conviction.
