happy #CDS2026 to those who celebrate!

Some reports say over 500 schools, 55 libraries, & 25 universities hit.
You can debate the numbers, but hitting Sharif University & Beheshti is like hitting MIT & Stanford. I keep wondering: How would the scientific community respond differently if it was those universities? What’s the difference?
This is so, so well-articulated.
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
Also excited to present some of my "affec-dev-cognition" work with @natvelali.bsky.social! Come chat with me about how children consider their collaborators' emotions when dividing labor. ✨
I am on the job market!

Our department is hiring an Assistant Teaching Professor!! This is a joint-appointed position with Computational Social Sciences (css.ucsd.edu). It's 75+ degrees F and sunny today, just thought I'd mention apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/JPF04461
It’s been so cool to see these ideas evolve, Uri - can’t wait to read this iteration!! :)

New paper hot off the press www.nature.com/articles/s41...
We analysed over 40,000 computer vision papers from CVPR (the longest standing CV conf) & associated patents tracing pathways from research to application. We found that 90% of papers & 86% of downstream patents power surveillance

With some trepidation, I'm putting this out into the world:
gershmanlab.com/textbook.html
It's a textbook called Computational Foundations of Cognitive Neuroscience, which I wrote for my class.
My hope is that this will be a living document, continuously improved as I get feedback.
Yes! Thanks for putting words to this! The mockery is so one-note, too... it feels like the Christmas equivalent of jokes about hating your wife.
In the running for greatest human accomplishment.
Well this is exciting!

Things I currently think you should be considering in your proposals. Although this thread will be NIH-centric, my guess is that some of this applies to NSF, etc. Much is synthesized from public information. Much of this is what we've advised all along, just with, um, more emphasis.
Here we go:

I agree that the US educational system is being undermined by AI, but I don’t understand how this, specifically, is an indictment? It looks like this ranking tracks the ranking based on total Laureates very closely (US: 424, UK: 144, Germany: 115).
Sooo proud 🥰 I've so enjoyed discussing this paper with Bella throughout our projects together, glad to see it get the spotlight!
We’re recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to join our team! 🎉
I’m happy to share that I’ve opened back up the search for this position (it was temporarily closed due to funding uncertainty).
See lab page and doc below for details!
Really cool, conceptually simple approach here: cross-referencing grant proposal scores with literature citations and explicit acknowledgments in drug patents to identify patents linked to projects that wouldn't have been funded given a smaller budget
My statement on Ai from the mini-comic as syllabus i made for new class I'm teaching that starts tomorrow! It robs you of your decisions & struggles - and the joy of being surprised. We won’t to be robbed of our learning - this is essential. This & the full mini at post:
