Perhaps some more prison time (around five more years) will impress upon not only Russell Laffitte, but the entire hierarchy at Palmetto State Bank, that only the customer comes first. A bank is a steward of other people’s money, and that sacred trust must be protected. It is a good day. EB
Today the sun will shine a little bit higher in our state because people like Russell Laffitte, who seek to victimize the vulnerable and the weak, must pay for their crimes.
We’re doing this, not only for themselves but on behalf of their mother and brother who died in the auto accident which gave rise to the crimes committed against them.
The Plylers are courageous young women who were willing to tell their stories about how they were victimized and exploited by Russell Laffitte and his co-conspirator Alex Murdaugh.
They are grateful for the tenacity and drive of both the state and federal governments to make sure that Laffitte is held accountable for his crimes.
My clients, the Plyler sisters, do not relish in Laffitte’s downfall and his newfound willingness to plead guilty to the charges brought against him which he fight many years to disprove. They were prepared to give their testimony against him in the new trial.
Yesterday’s plea of guilt reaffirms the notion that you cannot outrun justice. It will always catch up to you and win in the end.
These charges stem from his role as conservator for a number of Alex Murdaugh’s former clients, including my clients, Alania and Hannah Plyler, when they were young children, following the tragic loss of their mother and brother and a significant automobile rollover case.
Yesterday, the United States District Attorney for South Carolina and Russell Laffitte reached a plea agreement where Laffitte will plead guilty to several counts of bank fraud and money laundering.

Yesterday in a speech from Mara Lago Trump just flat out lied about Ukraine and it showed how he feels about Ukraine. Look it up. He said Ukraine “started the war“ with Russia. You can’t rewrite history.
