I have GONE WILD on the 1926 Irish census and have made some fun discoveries:
Trinidadian medical students, a Baháʼí couple in Donegal, the Irish widow of an emigré Cossack, and Egyptian sailors in Cork city - among many others.

Lovely piece by Victoria :-)
A wonderful tribute to a magnificent trailblazer!
You shall be missed Dame Averil Cameron.

‘Online abuse of politicians is a profitable business-Monetisation and algorithmic amplification has turned peddling disinformation, hate speech, and harassment into a for-profit industry’.The far right Irish blue ‘thicks’ who went after Eileen cash in on hate.

The Shrine of the Miosach on display in the National Museum of Ireland
Shrine of the Miosach • 11-12th century (with later modifications)
This book shrine is made from yew covered in metal plates. The manuscript which it contained has sadly been lost.
It is thought to date from around 1100, but it was repaired and modified in the 16th century.

“My life has become a rollercoaster,” she says in reference to the death threats and sanctions. “I never imagined living without a bank card, but I do. People help me. My freedom is stronger than my fear. You are defeated the moment you stop fighting.”

If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice
Lelia Doolan and supporters outside Moneygall on their way to Roscrea on Day 5 of the peace march. People are holding peace and Palestinian flags. One is holding a sign reading 'aid peace not war'. A number of people are holding a large banner reading ' US military out of Shannon's with Irish and Arabic translations below. There are some very good dogs, including Malcolm.
Lelia's aim is to raise awareness that Ireland allows US military use of Shannon for refueling on the way to commit war crimes in Gaza and elsewhere. She's calling on the Taoiseach to meet her and to end Irish support to US forces. Walk with her (me & Malcolm did!). End US military use of Shannon
Meanwhile, a very different protest is happening:
Is anyone surprised? We have a madman in the White House and masked thugs in the street who aren’t being held accountable even for murder.
Sad news in the middle of all the sad news: just got word of the passing of the great late Roman/Byzantine historian, Dame Prof. Averil Cameron. She was an amazing and inspiring scholar, a first rate human being, and a kind senior scholar who always treated juniors like colleagues. Beyond sad.
It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Dennis Kennedy, former Deputy Ed of the Irish Times. In the course of a busy retirement, Denis found time to contribute regularly to History Ireland on a broad range of subjects. He will be greatly missed.
