Thanks,Thomas. I’m in town for over three weeks so I’m sure I’ll get to at least a couple of concerts. I used to work in Walton’s home town of Oldham so I always look out for programmes containing his works.
Yes, all orchestras advertise programmes this way now, including the Halle in Manchester. I’m travelling to Chicago in two weeks time and I hope to attend some CSO concerts. One is billed as ‘DiDonato performs Neruda songs’, but I’m more interested in Walton’s first symphony, also on the programme.

An interesting programme but I’d have replaced the Tchaikovsky with an Ives symphony to keep the USA theme. Probably not an audience draw however.
It began my interest in all things space and although I became a librarian and archivist that magic has never left me. Still annoyed that we never invented a TARDIS!
I was six when I saw Apollo 11 splashdown in 1969. This has taken me back to that halcyon time.

Good afternoon! I’m a third through The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. It’s a good read but I think I can spot the thudding big reveal that’s going to come towards the end of the novel. It doesn’t help that many of the pull quotes in the book hint that such a reveal is forthcoming.

Good morning! I’ve just completed The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe. This is my third reading of The Book of the New Sun over a forty year period. It’s all starting to make sense now.
