Start as soon as you can. Yes! Absolutely kids learn through play but they also learn through repetition and routine and boundaries. It doesn’t have to be “boring” it just needs to start early! #earlyyears
We noticed just how important it was when our youngest was off for a week with respiratory issues. We asked for work to be sent home and yet, she still struggled, took us weeks to catch up. We’ve since spread this like wildfire among friends, it is so important to highlight the impact it has!
From as early as reception, we repeat and reiterate numbers/letters and then reading is in addition to that. Our kids have impeccable attendance. Unless it’s the hospital/religious reasons, we must go to school. We do not miss education; we treat it as we do work.
Two out of three of my kids has been described as showing “greater depths”, one has dyslexia but still excelling. Why? Ever since they were young, reading is a must before bed, daily. Twins still do this and they’re now 13. As does youngest. Homework or not, best believe we are recapping everything.
(with # 3) sadly as our career has progressed… we’ve compromised what we do as we don’t feel like we have the brain space as much. Anyway, back to early years. With all our kids, we’ve initiated numbers, letters, creed, reading from the get go, through play and literal learning…
Development matters & reception for growing children is a missed opportunity. We’ve got 3 children, with thanks to God. All have been raised with similar values/routines. I’d say, with us being younger with twins, they benefited from our strength/energy, we did much more then at w/e than now.
