Fire regimes in Mediterranean climates are shifting towards more frequent/severe events. Study shows strong links between fire, #plant traits & community response.๐ฅimpacts traits like #seed mass, #leaf area, & wood density at the community level besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
We find a long term change in vegetation towards heath dominated landscapes due to a reduction in nutrients, decreased rainfall and increased rainfall variability.
We also find a strong association between fire occurrence and biomass.

Spent a day in the dark yesterday opening a series of sediment cores from Lake Mungo in the Willandra world heritage area. Excited to see what these sediments will reveal about the past environments of the region
