🦇 Monday Wildlife Moment
Bats are an essential part of healthy ecosystems, consuming huge numbers of insects every night.
But a fungal disease known as White-Nose Syndrome has devastated bat populations across North America.
Local conservation groups are monitoring bat populations.

BC says there’s no new funding for watershed security - but that’s not the full story.
Updating outdated industrial water rates could generate $100M+ annually to protect drinking water, fund local watershed jobs, and strengthen community resilience against floods and droughts.

📣 YOUR VOICE MATTERS FOR BC’S CLIMATE FUTURE
BC’s climate plan, CleanBC, recently went through an independent review and now key decisions are being made about what gets funded, strengthened, or rolled back.
This is a critical moment.
🌱 Hey Sunshine Coast! Your voice matters 🌊
Right now, community planning processes like Official Community Plan updates are happening across the Coast. These plans help decide how we grow, where housing goes, how we protect nature, and how we respond to climate change.
Yesterday was National Bird Day — a moment to pause and recognize the birds that shape our ecosystems, cultures, and everyday lives.
Birds are more than background beauty. They are:
• Indicators of ecosystem health
• Seed dispersers and pollinators
• Natural pest control
• Key data points
The 35th annual Pender Harbour CBC (Christmas Bird Count) will take place all day on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025. The backup date is the following day, Thursday.
The Christmas Bird Count is a one-day census of all birds wintering in the Pender Harbour area, specifically within a 24-km radius.
On this Giving Tuesday, we’re grateful for the community that continues to step outside, pay attention, and connect with this place we call home.
Whether it’s walking a forest trail, watching the sun set on the solstice, counting birds, or simply noticing the changing of the season.
Tuesday December 2nd ❤️
GIVING TUESDAY 2025: The Coast Is Changing And Community Action Matters More Than Ever.
This Giving Tuesday, we’re inviting our community to join a movement that protects the forests, shorelines, and wildlife that make the Sunshine Coast home. ♥️
It’s almost Christmas Bird Count season! 🎄🕊️
Every winter between December 14 and January 5, thousands of volunteers across North America head outdoors to help track winter bird populations in their local communities.
The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is the longest-running citizen science project.
Where fireweed turns rust-red and the mountains breathe in cloud; this is the Coast we fight for.
Quiet resilience. Living beauty. A reminder that conservation begins right where our feet meet the forest floor.

Join us for the next round of forage fish sampling with Dianne Sanford and Friends of Forage Fish!
Forage fish, such as surf smelt and Pacific sand lance, play a crucial role in the marine food web. Our citizen science project helps monitor these important species to ensure the health of our coast.
Snow-capped mountains are back on the horizon in Átl’ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound; a reminder that winter precipitation is a lifeline for our coastal ecosystems.
Snowpack acts as a natural reservoir, slowly releasing freshwater into our streams and estuaries as it melts.
Even when the crowds are quiet, the forest is alive 🍄✨
This weekend’s BioBlitz event @earthfairstore brought together local mushroom enthusiasts and community partners to celebrate the incredible fungal diversity of the Sunshine Coast. From shaggy manes to chanterelles, our region draws it all.
How we invest today shapes the resilience of our coast tomorrow 🌊
