How much arsenic is in your drinking water? Maybe a lot less than there used to be, thanks to a 2001 change in the Safe Drinking Water Act! Read the paper, just out in ES&T: pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10..... @rff.org @cornellbrooks.bsky.social @lsuagcenter.bsky.social

Thanks Will! 😊
Hey #EconSky working in environmental econ! Looking for things to do this weekend? Why not write up a 2-3 page proposal for a cool conference-publication combo, happening in May 2025 in Washington, DC?
Submit your proposal (or paper) here by Oct 20: conference.nber.org/confsubmit/b...
👏👏👏
A call from environmental & natural resource economists to reinstate the authors of the National Climate Assessment. Please read, share, & (if you wish) sign. support-nca.org
📣 Join the AERE Graduate Student Engagement Committee next week for this awesome panel.
Happening next Monday, so in a week (April 7th, like in the poster, not the last post -- apologies for the typo!)
See you there!

Fortunately, I built an archive of data 2000-2023 for a previous project, which can be accessed without restriction here:

Brava! Congrats!
Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.
Pro: no commitment device. Con: no commitment device.
Just like the 10-repeals-for-every-new-regulation EO, this 4-exits-for-every-new-hire EO does NOT guarantee improvements in efficiency. Like the buy-1-firework-get-15-free signs, dig just a little deeper & you’ll see it’s not the great deal the simple tag line would have you believe.
April Fool’s Day is gonna be a real letdown this year.
Holy forking shirt balls
"Denial of a wanted abortion has both immediate and lasting effects. It increases a woman’s risk of death by 2.5 p.p within nine months, mainly due to unsafe abortion procedures, and raises the likelihood of carrying the pregnancy to term by 31 p.p. "
I so wish EM had the option of not sending that precursor email!
Fun to hear my colleague Michael Webber on On Point today doing his thing talking about energy and TX. He claims to be an engineer & policy guy but I think there might be an economist in there too. #econsky @npr.org

After so many examples I shouldn’t be surprised but still am when lobbyists convince politicians to make such foolish, not to mention costly, policy choices.
I was supposed to be back in LA today for the bar mitzvah of my son’s friend. Temple was in the evacuation zone until about 60 hours ago. Bar mitzvah took place today. Attended on Zoom (& cried through much of it in spite of not understanding Hebrew). The magic of LA has always been in community.
That last part!😊
Also a huge thank you to Shanjun Li & Carolyn Fischer for their hard work elevating @jaereaere.bsky.social during their tenure as editor & co-editor, respectively.
Only a week late but I’m thrilled to announce 2 additions to @jaereaere.bsky.social editorial team: @ariklevinson.bsky.social as editor & Jianwei (Jerry) Xing as co-editor. Welcome Arik & Jerry! #econsky
Feeling that post-conference high from connecting with colleagues, listening to innovative research, plotting new projects. Never gets old. #econsky #ASSA2025
Congrats Casey!
Advice for 2025 (which I may regret offering)...If you mostly said no when invited to review a paper in 2024, then say yes more in 2025. If you mostly said yes when invited to review a paper in 2024, then say no more in 2025. Yes, even if I invite you! #econsky
So exciting to see 4 environmental articles in the latest issue of AEJ Applied! Congrats to @jmcolmer.bsky.social @cjwich.bsky.social & other authors! #econsky
Feel like this can't be true but tried to buy some canned NA cocktails this morning at Central Market. Check out associate said she couldn't sell them because it was before noon on a Sunday. TX blue laws can't possibly apply to NA drinks, can they? @texastribune.org @austinchronicle.bsky.social
Definitely on my list for 2024.
Gave myself a holiday gift...time to migrate here! Hoping to connect with my econ colleagues here like in the before times. Still figuring things out so hoping to learn from some pros @jenniferdoleac.bsky.social @jmcolmer.bsky.social @ludogazze.bsky.social @cjwich.bsky.social @econsandy.bsky.social
