The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Removing Noem would have tremendous value. It would be first time someone would be held accountable in this disaster of an administration. The first time but not the last. But we have to start somewhere.

Don't know that this will matter much but the Dems didn't cave. 7 Dems and 1 Independent caved. Let's not paint all Dems with the same brush.

The type A in me feels better now that I've said that.

The rest of me is royally ticked off at the 7 Dems and 1 Independent.

One of the most depressing parts of this timeline is the ever-growing list of people and organizations I can no longer trust. I don't want to give in to heartbreak but some days....it's hard not to.

I know it's super early, but here's what I want from 2028 Democratic presidential candidates: how they plan to rebuild what's been destroyed, how they intend to hold the fascists accountable, and how they plan to make sure it never happens again, including new restrictions on presidential authority.
