The Health and Safety authority reported that the number of people in Ireland diagnosed with TB is relatively low (approximately over 400 cases annually). Stopping smoking, however, can significantly reduce chances of infection and improve overall lung health.

World Kidney Day 2026

Smoking reduces renal function by reducing blood flow to the kidneys, but it also increases the risk of developing chronic kidney disease and kidney cancer. Quitting smoking is vital for good kidney health 🚭

🚩 A new year is a good moment to reflect on how we design effective cessation services.

We’re running an online survey to understand public attitudes towards using financial incentives (e.g. vouchers) as part of cessation support. We’d really value your perspective.

100 deaths every week from tobacco products - report Dr Paul Kavanagh, Chair of the RCPI Clinical Advisory Group on Smoking and E-Cigarettes, outlines the findings of a new report on reducing the harm of tobacco products.

Dr Paul Kavanagh featured on RTE Radio 1 to discuss a tobacco free future. He highlighted that smoking rates in Ireland are still a concern and it is healthcare professionals who are “picking up the pieces everyday” as a result of tobacco-related harm 🚭
