So, JD Vance says the pope needs to be careful. I hope the pope takes him seriously. If he upsets JD too much, JD could visit him.

Hey, every boat counts!
Yeah, part of the backstory of Babylon 5 is that San Diego was (will be) destroyed by a nuclear explosion. I’d also rather that not happen.
Which story? Note: they sometimes said there was a third world war and sometimes said there wasn’t. They really didn’t have a singular coherent narrative of the past. Given that Khan was supposed to have come to power in the 90s, he would have been born when or shortly after the script was written.
I was wondering if this image was real, so I asked ChatGPT about it. As an aside to its answer that the animal exists, it claimed:
The flattened, bony snout lets it plug tree holes to retain moisture during dry periods

People who think AI isn’t helpful obviously aren’t doing important research like this 😁
ChatGPT again:
Oh, if you meant the turning around one… I’ll have to look again. I haven’t rewatched these shows since the 90s…
Part of dialog from season 5 episode “Power Play” with analysis matching to my partial memory of a log entry by Riker.
I got an assist from ChatGPT:
They do lots of stupid things like that. Like the time the Enterprise couldn’t stop (no one ever asks relative to what), but they could turn their trajectory 180 degrees. Oblivious to the fact that reversing course requires twice as much energy as the thing they didn’t have enough energy to do.
I’m sorry I wasn’t more clear. My quibble was not that they said “synchronous” when they meant “stationary”. My complaint is that they believed an orbiting body could park directly over a rotating planet’s pole. A stationary orbit is only possible along a planet’s equator.
While Trek may be less magical than Wars (and don’t get me wrong; I enjoy them both) it’s still terrible. TNG once claimed to have Enterprise in “synchronous” (in context, they clearly meant stationary) orbit over a planet’s pole. Writers are generally scientifically illiterate.
@tetzoo.bsky.social I’m sure you and your coverup cabal will have some smooth story to share, but I defy you to do your best to explain this:

For me it was four and a half years ago, oddly enough also when I was 57. Totally agree with you that each of us should get to choose (wish the choice wasn’t forced on me and you) but I feel sad for people whose past relationships make them revel in being alone.
Then episode VI… drive 200 miles to see it as soon as possible. Starting to feel let down. Ewoks? Really? Teddy bears winning against storm troopers? Well, ok, at least it resolved everything. Then Phantom Menace… I wanted so badly to like it… Jar jar? I’ll try spinning? No. Just no.
I saw episode IV when I was 13. Blown away. Couldn’t see it enough times. Episode V… wow! Even better. Darth claiming he was Luke’s father and Ben lied about it… hard to take seriously as anything other than, “hey let’s inject something so non-sensical that everyone will be surprised”. 1/2
You knew this was coming. 🤣
😆 a friend tried to get me to travel for a convention last weekend, and I told him that I had to stay for our local No Kings protest. I joked that “somebody has to stop Trump”. So I’m trying!
Marco vs. Marco.
Yeah, but I sure would like to see him imprisoned at the time he finally does kick the bucket. He’s run out of time for justice to be meted out according to what he deserves, but I’d like to at least have that small victory.

I have friends everywhere.
You wood say that.
Major asset and general ass.
Not seeing the struggle. They seem like natural allies of each other. Except occasionally as Paul Krugman said: malevolence tempered by incompetence.

Me too!
The moment shrub gave his “you’re either with us or you’re with the terrorists” speech, which IIRC was 9/20/2001, I felt all alone. He was just as stupid and illegitimate on 9/12 as he was on 9/10, but somehow it seemed everyone else who’d been complaining just forgot.
