I’ve been a BBC contributor for years, and I’ve just been told that now for the radio, “Dr” titles are only being used to introduce medical doctors.

Why? Why is my, or any of my colleagues’ PhDs, not worth the recognition? As a woman in science, this concerns me. Thoughts? @rosatkins.bsky.social

Showcase: Learn how apps are integrating the new design and Liquid Glass | Meet with Apple YouTube video by Apple Developer

So excited to see Fifth Star Labs' Sky Guide app featured in this showcase for Liquid Glass 😍 it's controversial, I know, but honestly - liquid glass has really enhanced our UI. Chris, one co-founder, appears about 55 mins in - and I get a mention around 1hr 16mins 😇 www.youtube.com/live/hyFIakd...

That's what makes your image so special - showcasing that you can get a fantastic image of the comet without spending thousands upon thousands. If you can let me know any details about exposure time etc, that's always great to include. Thanks for sharing!

a cartoon of a penguin holding another penguin with a starry sky in the background ALT: a cartoon of a penguin holding another penguin with a starry sky in the background

An excellent showing from the Perseids! Out for 70 minutes, counted 17 meteors, and about 7 of them were amazing fireballs - one streaked across a quarter of the sky! I predicted one every 5-10 mins, so pretty good showing 😊

It’s the peak of the Perseids tonight! I’m heading out in about half an hour with my Dad. Loungers ready, I’ve got my oodie and joggers. Hoping for some good ones, despite the moonlight!

Yes! I've had several discussions about this with my old supervisor over the years! Would love to see this happen, particularly with Wales having some of the darkest skies in Europe, let alone the UK.

This news is AMAZING 😍 ... but I don't like the headline of the first female Astronomer Royal for the UK. @astroroyalscot.bsky.social Catherine Heymans has been the Astronomer Royal for Scotland for years, and the last time I checked, Scotland was part of the UK...

Yeah, I think it certainly is more on the entertainment side. It's not a video to watch if you want the science. An interesting experiment to see what AI can achieve, but I think you need scientific artists to use it as a tool, with their knowledge to fortify the result

I agree, I think AI can be useful - but it can't be used blindly. It has to be used with understanding, almost like an additional tool to the artist's wheel? Sort of moving with the times, but it still requires training and understanding to utilise properly.

Amazing! If I could ask for some basic info about his imaging set-up? Scope/exposure/camera and broad location? I assume it's somewhere near you but he may have been travelling when he captured this :)

Researchers use AI to analyse cosmic explosions | BBC News
Researchers use AI to analyse cosmic explosions | BBC News YouTube video by BBC News

AI is used in astronomy every day in data analysis. Far too much data is generated for humans to handle. Even the discovery of 3I/ATLAS used machine learning (ML), a branch of AI.

Discoveries are uncovered by machines, but scientists understand them ❤️ (2/2) youtu.be/ArauDRFunmk?...

A week ago, I headed down to the BBC London Studios for the first time to comment on an AI generated movie illustrating the imagined life of comet 3I/ATLAS. Some elements I think were fair, and others were definitely artistic flair! What do you think about AI in storytelling? (1/2)
