Keir Starmer must be sacked for employing Mandelson because he thought he was in with Trump, say people who have a ten year history of writing opinions on why Trump is great and we should bend the knee to his every whim.

TS are in effect a British glam band - the rule is 3/4 brickies and a looker.
The thing you notice about US rock radio is they play zero tracks from the UK glam era for UK glam bands, they play Slade covers and Slade tracks from the early 80s - Bowie aside it’s
Like it didn’t happen
The album this is off is an utter banger from start to finish, it’s massively underrated. Glam didn’t do much in the US so in the early 80s bands could effectively just copy it and audiences would accept it as something new. Their doc is utterly awesome as well.
I remember ITV taking a half page add out in the papers for the first episode of a season of Shelly. Around the same time, my mum and sister loved “only when I laugh” and various other comedies that I can’t remember the casts names to go and look them up to find the name of the show.
Jackson was so big, they took us in to the media theater at school the followin Monday and showed us that. At school. When Jackson played the MK bowl there was a huge queue outside the council box office, people who didn’t do gigs, bought a ticket. And he played to 135k at aintree next day
Because they were terrified of the pushback, angry armed men, the money men that clearly like him because they want more money, the press, loads of reasons. The legal side is because it would have set a precedent, they were scared of and if it failed they were terrified of his wrath.
I recall the idea floated in the mail in the 80s and 90s, that women when they got in the booth were a lot more conservative and that’s why you shouldn’t believe polls showing Tories 10 points behind. This seems an extension of it and delegitimising any result when they lose.
John Hotten in kerrang 1988, did a slagging of the newly released deep purple live album, slating then 15-18 year old songs for being aged and ancient. The entire magazine is often critical of the elder statesman of metal in a way that the modern editions wouldn’t ever dare..
At the end of the day, don’t we all just want to open up an independent bookstore that doubles as a café and triples as a pet rescue?
I think they reenact the passion at Easter, I seem to remember @dankaszeta.bsky.social mentioning he’d participated when on the other site.
There’s a belief there you can have Thatcher levels of tax, (and keep the triple lock), if we just find some unexplored methods or savings. The right currently love anyone that doesn’t challenge that and shows the right level of deference.
Truss outmanoeuvred her. KB was a one trick pony who’s “I know what a woman is”, shtick was her safe space. Truss stuck her in the role of negotiating trade deals knowing she’d taken all the low hanging fruit. Same types who liked Truss thought KB was one to be feared…
They never do, they always think they’re “real Britains”, real voters, wwc, whatever euphemism they’re using today, but always the only ones who count. The opposition is always activists and rotten lefties - if they lose it’s because they weren’t real conservatives or someone cheated.
Was at Alton towers 1991, they had one of those rolling shows like Disney had, basically a procession of tribute acts playing as it moved along. Then it stopped at this small stage and announced, singing his heart out to maybe 20 people, the real David Essex. Got photos somewhere….
Glen Matlock in his biography reckons the pistols were gonna cover this, complete with an arty type doing painting while they played it.
Big Jim Broadbent in Hot Fuzz “he’s not even from round here” vibes from that PhD line.
In many ways it doesn’t have to do that much, just let the c suite make cuts and collect resulting bonuses for a couple of quarters, then they’ll have a management merry go round, and someone else gets a nice role clearing the mess up.
All these right wingers changing parties - it’s like the 80s when you’d open Kerrang and find out half of Deep Purple were in Whitesnake or had joined Sabbath. Who’s the equivalent of Cosy Powell in this I wonder?
Will we see a stairwell nonce bashing ?
Don’t underestimate the screw you back element of it all….
The G.O.P. Senator Who Can’t Stop Thinking About the Boy ICE Detained Katie Britt is uniquely positioned to reason with the Trump administration — when she chooses to speak up.
over the next 3 years, be ready for seeing a lot of coverage of Republican lawmakers, business leaders, university leaders who did absolutely nothing to stall Trump (on the contrary) — about how *actually* they were wringing their hands all along. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/05/u...
Works brilliantly with Carry on films …
Peter Grant ended up a magistrate I think….
Jimmy Young was often the king of this stuff, he’d let them talk themselves into a hole. They’d take him lightly but they’d often reveal far more than they meant to.
100% tariff on the MM/DD/YY format.
BBC2 in the evenings and BBC1 on Saturday mornings were great for this circa 78-84, scary those days are as far away now as the B&M stuff was from then..
Anyone who disagrees with them is never a real Britain or voter, they’re an activist or some over label.
They might or might not believe it, but they believe we should try to get there using tax cuts for the reasonably well off and upwards and dishing out money to companies, work or not, they’ll get the money so it’s win-win from their POV.
If they stuck Farage in the lords as he wants, it’d be problem over, his musings on reform lords a month or so ago felt very much an offer you can’t refuse - nice country, be a shame to see me run it.
Ultimately they think only their white right wing demographic counts - real voters, silent majority, red wall etc counts so they hate anything that’s not about them - connects with their other attitudes, the need for deference and gratitude the rest of us are allowed to live here.
