Rant time:

I just want to say that I really, REALLY dislike AI image generation.

Not threatened by it. Just that it removes creative and collaborative steps.

Yes, prompt mastery is a skill. I get it.

But it doesn't make ppl creative any more than it makes me a coder.

a sign with four red circles with a line through them, signifying "do not" use these things when you are doing your "discovery route" because it's doesn't necessarily translate to a useful process and your process team will have to redo everything anyway. in the four circles: 1. a flash column - meaning avoid column chromatography. 2. -78 degrees C, 400 degrees C in a sealed tube - meaning don't use silly reaction conditions. 3. hexane, dichloromethane and dimethylformamide - meaning don't use these solevnts. 4. sodium hydride, HF, TBDMSCl, CH2N2, OsO4 - meaning these are not great reagents for scale. avoid protection/deprotection and hazardous reagents.

And while we are at it...let's not forget about the poor old process chemists.....

I decided I will probably close the Etsy shop. I don't mind not making money, but losing money is not an option.

To break even on physical items I'd need to charge much more than I'm prepared to.

So I have decided to focus just on digital stuff (cards, flyers, etc)..watch this space #chemsky

An angry, grey, cartoon atom with a clenched fists. It has "Hg²⁺" (Mercury ion) written on its forehead. A sign above it reads "DEPT. OF TUNGSTEN & ARGON" (WAr). The atom is exclaiming, "'diversity is our strength' is the dumbest phrase in military history!" This is Pete Hg-seth

Photocatalytic Vanadium‐Mediated Amination of Benzene With Hydroxylamine Photochemical activation of N-phenylphenothiazine (PPT) enables a selective direct benzene amination with hydroxylamine in the presence of various vanadium catalysts under mild reaction conditions. S...

Our combination of metal- and photocatalysis enables the selective synthesis of aniline under mild conditions and allows easy scaling with flow systems. Nice team work!

cartoon featuring a line drawing of a cow standing in a field. The cow has various black spots, but two specific spots are labeled with chemical symbols: a large spot on its back is labeled "Mo" (Molybdenum), and its udder is labeled "Tc" (Technetium).
Above the cow, the handwritten text reads, "Moly Cows" and "IT'S A LIVING!"

Two toilets arguing. One is holding a bottle of liquor. It is pointing calling the other toilet a "Craphead!". the seconds toilet is pointing back saying "pisspot!".

I paid a bill. I sent an e-mail to confirm and attached a screen shot of the transaction.

"Please see attached for payment confirmation"

The second image is what actually got sent.

Happy bloody Friday!

Do I know any chemistry people on here from Spain (preferably near Madrid)?
I have a rising senior here at AU (Spanish citizen) going back home to Madrid this summer and is looking for any lab work opportunities.
Thanks!

Sitting on the #ACS150 celebration to enjoy virtually. @everywherechem.bsky.social encouraged us to think about our connection to 150 years of presidents. I got one! I once trolled Allison Campbell about her socks. #chemsky #chemchat #acs150

Have you ever heard about electrides - ionic compounds in which an electron serves the role of the anion?

Do you know that you can simply buy an organometallic electride in form of a food supplement?

What, you don't trust me? Let me show with this stuff!

(1,4-bis(5-phenyloxazol-2-yl) benzene) (also knows as POPOP) is hovering behind, raising its hand and saying "Clock it". Its glowing at about 410 nm. These are the molecules commonly used in liduid scintillation counting.

This cartoon shows a boat labelled “Grantor” carrying a cargo of “IP”, “know how”. And a massive container that says “protect”. It’s trying to get away from an iceberg labelled “publish”. There is a cry from the grantor boat saying “faster faster”. Driving the iceberg is a submarine labelled “tenure board”. Ithere is also a cry from the submarine saying “faster faster”. Trailing behind these two is a researcher in a small boat with an outboard motor. The person is crying “wait up”!

The cartoon is meant to represent the tension between translational research funding, the pressure to achieve outcomes, and the pressure to produce outputs to meet the different metrics of the different bodies involved.
