Get your folklore ready for #FolkloreThursday!
Our online talk WALKING THE WEIRDSTONE on Alan Garner and Archaeology, with @jpwarchaeology.bsky.social this Saturday at 8pm is so popular that it sold out.
So we extended the event capacity and made more tickets available!
Book now while you can at
www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/walking-th...
The archaeologist bloke isn't bad, either 😉😁
Image of a pretty diamante butterfly brooch on a teal-coloured card, from Pop Up Studio. The butterfly is pink and green, and has a banner across it which reads 'What fresh hell is this?', a quote attributed to Dorothy Parker, who would quip, 'What fresh hell can this be?' if her doorbell rang. (And doubtless at other times, too).
New bling.
Thought it was fitting as well as being literary-adjacent.
You can also book an hours call with me for £74 ($100), where I will talk to you about how I go through my process with finding lost ghost stories, genealogy research, how to write biographical non-fiction and also the tools I use.

Thank you! Added to my list 🥰 What do you especially enjoy about it?
Watched The Innocents last night, and there were so many unsettling aspects (including the creepy poem!). I enjoyed the way it made me doubt 'Miss Giddens' and her view of reality - I love an unreliable narrator.
Poltergeist! What a great one to revisit. Thank you so much for the suggestions! 🥰
Yes, it has that wonderful quiet sense of dread which never fails to be unnerving, a bit like O Whistle. Thank you for the suggestion! 🥰
That sounds like an ideal watch, Mike - thank you! 🥰
Thanks! I am not familiar with any of these, which is great - always enjoy adding new things to my watch list. 🥰
It's exactly my sort of thing! Great movie, with a couple of very good twists. I'm always up for a nicely done seance scene (George C Scott's The Changeling and Eva Green's epic seance in Penny Dreadful are both favourites).
Thank you! Creepy children are always a good bet, as are adaptations of Turn of the Screw. I enjoyed The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Thank you! Not one I'm familiar with. Anything with a creepy carnival gets my vote. 🥰
Not one I've come across before, so thank you - it sounds really compelling from a psychological perspective. 🥰
Anything with a psychological flavour is ideal. Thank you! 🥰
Ghostwatch is one of my favourites - and the Enfield case is compelling on so many levels. Thanks for your suggestions! 🥰
TV and mini-series are fine too! Thank you!
The 1980s Woman in Black is brilliant - did you know that THAT scene, the one which terrified everyone, was done in one take?
Thanks for all these - adding them to my list! 🥰

Yes - this is such a good one. The creeping sense of dread it creates in the viewer is superb. Thanks for the suggestion! 🥰
This sounds excellent - thank you for suggesting it, as it's not one I know. 🥰

A small white-sheet ghost holds a sign saying 'BOO'.
Hello lovely Bluesky people 🥰 I'm working on a new book and need some help. What are the best ghost movies out there (any era) - and WHY? Ghosts, hauntings, ghost hoaxes...
Hit me with your recommendations!
Thank you in advance!

Screen grab of a post: *demon stands amid your destroyed work space* Demon: *booming* HOW? How were you able to summon me?! You (frantically clicking Undo) *screaming and crying* I don't know. I was just trying to format an outline in Word. You were supposed to be bullet points.
I have been here.
