I am, one year later, still incredibly proud of Scotty for this project based around taking the deepest look possible and engaging with the text of Star Wars without a shred of defensive irony or cynicism.

Vision was born wanting to do the right thing and I don’t think he could have even grasped the evil “inside” him. I think the inverse is true of Matt
I also think that Matt has simply been compromised too many times by his own darkness that even on his best days he couldn’t do it.
I think my answer is similar to how I interpreted Thanos killing Gamora: it’s very much rooted in the individual’s headspace and belief.
