The term “the American Experiment” is a source of deep comfort these days. Because when someone complains that our country elected to office a mindlessly sociopathic slob who is leading the world down a path to cataclysmic disaster, we can always just shrug and say: “Hey, it’s just an experiment.”
The problem is, as always, if the things you are hitting aren't the enemy's center of gravity, they're just stats.
