UTRGV and UT Health have a new radiation oncology facility in McAllen, Tx that I’ll be helping with physics coverage. Welcome to the Rio Grande Valley!

Our local AAPM chapter spans Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma so brainstorming group names for a new mini-GRAC group focused on sharing state radiation control & regulation updates.

Early favorites for the name so far:
1) ALTO
2) Arklatexoma

Might use both for fun 😂

Adding a new facility to my list of places to cover. Enjoyed learning new processes and procedures and trying to figure out where everything lives. New usernames, new passwords, feels almost like a new chapter :)

Great work by AAPM GRAC’s WGPVAC (Working Group on Practice in Veterans Affairs Centers), advocating for VA patients through sustained long-term efforts.

I had to learn to be intentional with catching near-misses but without sounding like it’s a ding. It helps to mention multiple catches so the newest one doesn’t drown out the message. Framing it as educational (not a ‘gotcha’) helps that delicate balance. A gotcha approach kills the conversation.

Kicking off SWAAPM 2026 conference with a panel discussion about the inaugural AAPM Advocacy Day last summer, real experiences from Capitol Hill and how advocacy fits into the future of medical physics.

I imagine one day in the far future I may achieve this success too 🤞

2025 AAPM Advocacy Day in DC. It’s been a great week being with other medical physicists in the conference hall and on Capitol Hill!

Exactly, they’re really good folks to meet and I was lucky to get to chat with them this week! Both were super nice!

Spent time at council row #aapm2025 volunteering at the PC booth. Hope I encouraged those interested in serving on a committee to take the jump! If you believe medical physicists have tremendous value benefiting ALL patients, join my MedPhys3.0 grassroots group! forms.gle/1XEtCtiFiAcx...

Haven’t been to an annual meeting in years but glad to be here tonight because it’s full of well-deserved recognition. Seeing friends awarded AAPM Fellowship in medical physics is enough reason for me attending the meeting! Huge congratulations to all of this year’s Fellows and awardees! #aapm2025

Professional symposium notes on providing & demonstrating value:

(1) By being open to change & not “do it this way, because that’s always how it’s been done”,

(2) We cannot allow the indulgence of "I don't know how it works, so I will check everything". Be a scientist & figure out how it works.
