GOD. The "realism is better" argument grinds my gears. But alas, the great bards at Epic Rap Battles of History and the ghost of J.R.R. Tolkien has the best rebuke:
Especially when "realism" just invokes making things dull and gray. I could rant on this subject all day but I think the mass industry push for "realism = better" is leading to a major creative bottleneck and decline that is actively hurting new creatives as they think its the "only" way :/ 2/2
The push for "realism" across all mediums is one of my biggest bugbears as well especially when it goes hand in hand with Cinema-Sins esq. needing to over-explain things. It permeates everywhere from creature design to adaptations and robs things of whimsy, style and theme. 1/2

Its surreal to watch people whose media I watch and see them real time have friend and peer drama explode open and publicly. Its reminds me how they are people and prone to the same faux pas and fuck ups anyone else is... just theirs is public and have tens of thousands of people taking sides. 😬

The UK and Ireland have centuries of cryptid history, but today only a couple are well known. I uncovered dozens of obscure reports of strange cryptids on the isles, from graveyard dwelling mammals, to blue horses, to mysterious bloodsucking serpents.

There's a lot of hullabaloo on the Moonchild on Bluesky lately.
Does this mean the war between White magicians and Black Magicians has ended? Has the Scarlet Woman conceived the etheric Moonchild? Will we transcend our human bodies? WAS ALISTER CROWLEY RIGHT?!
That's *weird*. I know there's a lot of people outside the US are boycotting come to the US for *reasons*, but that kind of quiet cancellation doesn't bode well for the con management , like you see that kind of stuff from notorious cons like Anime Matsuri so thats a shame.
A majority of my crew I met up with AMA the last two years all are around from the Midwestish (Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan) for the longest time as the Californian I was the outlier, now that I'm on the Iowa border, a Midwest Kaiju con is needed badly.
God, that gives me anxiety just thinking about being in that position x_x
All the mainstream influx we've been getting. I hear Kaiju Brooklyn is good but thats all the way in New York. 2/2
Huh didn't know it got canceled.
I couldn't attend either way because of having to do a sudden move across the country to Iowa that utterly devastated any savings I could have had. In theory this means I'm closer to Chicago now, but alas. Its a shame that Kaiju cons are still so niche despite 1/2
God I just want regular kaiju convention people can can congregate too that's in the midwest. AMA was solid the times I've been there, but apparently its not the best handled either. It makes friend meet ups and artist meet ups really hard :/

A reminder I have a letterbox'd! Regular in depth reviews on monster movies and other media I've seen!
Some of these so called "thieves" who were Artist alley regulars are now actual artists on licensed Toho approved comics. But no G-Fest, insult a portion of your fanbase who made you what you are that'll fix everything.
...we have people instigating "Monsterverse sucks Minus is better and your not a true fan if you like Slopendary Godzilla" discourse ALREADY. Its frustrating liking anything these days and I imagine as both a fan and a creator of something big that frustration is so much more intense 4/4
Its why I think all "fandoms" are inherently toxic. As no matter the one, even of media I like and participate in, the same toxic gatekeepy behaviors occur. The constant needing to shit on something to justify for your love for another thing. As a Godzilla fan, even now... 3/4
No moral reason, no grander creative conspiracy, no selling out others... just something doesn't land with you. But nope, media is a math problem to be solved and if something is "bad" (or you think is bad) it has to be SOMEONE'S FAULT. Something as true across all fandoms. 2/4
It frustrates me how fandom culture treats everything as a zero sum game. If you dont vibe with something it has to be *someones* fault or the contribution of good stuff was done by one person over another. When at the end of the day: its just something that you subjectively dont vibe with. 1/4

Here's your first look at GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, in theatres & IMAX November 6.
VFX, Written, and Directed by Takashi Yamazaki. #FilmedForIMAX
Why can't people just be the guy with two cakes? Things can exist independently of each other *and* do so with out shitting on things other people enjoy. All Godzillas are valid. 2/2
Hype for seeing what #Godzilla Minus Zero has to offer, but good god am I seeing some absolutely *braindead* takes circling around and the trailer hasn't even dropped yet.
"its stupid to make these movies when another series exists" which then provokes anti-Monsterverse discourse :/ 1/2
A screenshot of The Simpsons episode "22 Short Films About Springfield", featuring Seymour Skinner serving to Superintendent Chalmers a tray of mouth-watering hamburgers, or as they say in Albany, NY, "Steamed Hams", even though they were obviously grilled.
