I also remember the time when going to some friend home and we had to flip the PS1 upside down to have it read the game disc LOL! I think the weight is probably more related to the haptic feedback motor. The PS3 sixaxis felt lighter after being use to to the DualShock 2 from my PS2 :-)
I got the PS1 classic when they were some liquidation of it, even thought review were not so good. Its still the replica of my beloved PlayStation :-)
