Exactly. By contrast, this is the post-Easter, pre-Christmas federal holiday distribution in Canada - not suggesting it's *perfect* but you can see they both have more public holidays (good!) and also the spacing is ~every 4-6 weeks, which is much better spacing. And they have two in the summer.

I think it would be better if prominent people on the UK left didn't base their policies on irrelevant nationalist symbolism but on trying to improve people's lives to the maximum extent possible. Yes it's not a desperately important issue but the habits of mind it shows are depressing.

The benefit of a bank holiday is that people can socialise with friends or family; people obviously value this most when there has been some kind of interlude. What the country needs, and would be genuinely great, is a bank holiday each in June and July.

Agree with this. There was an understandable effort not to be sneery (at least in public!) about 'post-92 universities' in general but that same instinct has led people to be unwilling to call out the sharp practices of certain operators, many of which are not 'unis' as commonly understood at all.
