Hear here, a timely reminder. I can't abide the 4 - 'pass' and 5 'good pass' nonsense.

I know I say this every year, but with results day on the horizon, please remember that for some kids grade 1-3 is a huge achievement. It represents years of hard work and determination. It’s not a fail. It is a GCSE qualification that they can and should be celebrated for.

Good point. David has added a paragraph now. It's not straightforward - you need to see grades obtained in maths and English as well to guide you - but better than a random number I hope! helenmyers.blogspot.com/2025/06/prac...

A Wren stands atop a flowering gorse bush, beak wide open mid-song, as if shouting into the week. Determined and loud against a clear blue sky, a tiny feathered alarm clock you didn’t set.

Yes.. but would love to hear you. Didn't know that about Zayna. What a star! I still have a slide somewhere when I show off about her brilliant writing in year 11 in response to a Second Life scenario in class!

Etymology of the day: ‘book’ comes from an ancient root shared by ‘beech’, a wood that people used for engraving inscriptions. ‘Paper’ comes from ‘papyrus’, and ‘volume’ is from the Latin for a ‘roll’ of parchment.

Happy World Book Day.
