only slightly. i've worked with tons of local small biz and in my experience, they're also mostly clueless, don't know why they're still in business and can't reason about it.
just a much smaller blast radius.
i spent years as a low-wage freelancer, and not a single one of my small biz clients were ever this smart and methodical about it! and they wouldn't listen to me when i tried to guide them, either
bigcos weren't much better
i, ofc, have offered to help her put her site together
last week, she asked me if it was silly that she planned to lay it all out on paper first to make it clear.
…she independently invented paper prototypes
my most normie friend — a house cleaner — continues to be more savvy about business than most tech industry people i know
she wants to expand her biz, & yesterday she told me:
i figure i should decide exactly what i want my business to be before trying to make the web site, or else it'll be a mess
“AI prototyping lets you quickly build in depth prototypes.”
Once again, we return to designing with ketchup.
Instead ask, what is the purpose of your prototype?
You could build prototypes in ketchup for all I care, so long as it serves the purpose you need it to.

* it wasn't a thing you "recover from" per se — it required cutting out corn. all corn. including corn derivatives, which means essentially every convenient food such as "grapes & potatoes from the grocery store" and "butter, milk, flour, baking powder, etc. except this ONE, specific brand." FUN
i've finally recovered* from my absolutely disabling brainfog, and i'm back to work
been 100% heads down on consulting & putting out fires
BUT
expect new stuff here soon 👀
solving real people's problems *as* a real person is more relevant than ever.
In short: bet on yourself over a technology that continues to underwhelm, continues to cause huge problems and will eventually pop.
Be ready for when it does, for the $$$
AGREED, BUT
you can & should use a thesaurus as long as you know what the subtle distinctions between words are, or if you bother to look them up! & don't overuse
i use a thesaurus all the time. sometimes the perfect word doesn't pop into my head on its own
they're a source for ideas, not "truth"
nobody would say "kingslayer" is violent speech and you know it. that's reductio ad absurdum.
one of them says "i can call you anything i want and you can't be hurt" and the other says "stop calling me something, it hurts"
no they don't
always had that vibe, unfortunately
an embarrassing mess, practically apocalyptic, and all unforced errors.
Using Figma Desktop on a train with a spotty connection is infuriating. Of all the apps that should be offline first, Figma is high up, surely (yes I know it’s a wrapped website).
How this software became the industry “default” will forever baffle me.
imagine pretending to have anything to do with writing — the most human endeavor — and wanting to insert CHATBOTS into it. honest to god, you sicken me. you are disgusting and your work is evil.
@paulallison.bsky.social hey buddy you suck shit!
so weird that YOU follow ME and yet you somehow think i won't call you on the absolute steaming pile of bullshit that is subjecting CHILDREN to chatbots?
you should feel the deepest shame. you should be barred from all educational endeavors
“I got this.”
(Because you’re confident)
“I got this.”
(Trying to convince yourself)
“I got this.”
(A resignation, statement of fact.)
If you’re at the bottom, work your way to the top.
a lot of ppl supposedly in content marketing (or marketing content) view their work as nothing more than filling a hole…
they don't ask WHY they're creating content
WHO it's for
WHY that audience should care
WHAT that audience will take away from it
HOW it affects their own brand/reputation
What looks like ‘just a conversation’ to you is actually:
• Customer insights
• Trust building
• Early warnings
• Decision support
Community is operational intelligence.
Colleen and Lianna here (hiiii) - we started SMG to help close the delta between amazing SaaS products and their absolutely *terrible* (or nonexistent) marketing.

unsplash is right there!!
there are so many very easy options for free or super cheap stock art
which also communicates a lack of care imo but not as insulting
Learning curves should not be something you can fall off.
heard from one of our launch clients that he had his best launch EVER, despite a sexy new competing product launching at the exact same time
your competition is rarely your competition.
the thing that costs sales is not doing the necessary sales work!

Jobs had many flaws, but the man had taste, loved good art, and could tell you *what* he loved about the artists he loved. Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen spent decades of his life learning guitar and built a museum dedicated to Hendrix. We used to have a better class of robber baron.
