illustration of V1 from ULTRAKILL splayed and stitched onto a quilt made of flesh slabs stitched together, with various bright mismatched wall, floor and skybox textures from the game for skin. Some of the slabs are falling off, behind them is an empty void. Various eyes on the slabs all watch V1 in the center. V1's chest, torso and thigh cavities are open, showing a biomechanical mishmash of organs wires and hydraulics. In the center is a heart pinned by a sewing needle

The ever-present battle of making things and moving back and forth between "it's so over" and "we're so fucking back"

Moon Child began life as an Amiga AGA title before shifting to PC, where it finally saw release in 1997. A fascinating glimpse into a project caught between two eras. More here:

I listened to it months ago for the first time, and as a huge fan of the Akira soundtrack I had such a moment of "why did I not fucking look at this sooner this is the ultimate version of everything that ost does" The stereo dancing around is so cool.

Hell in a Bottle by Kyusaku Yumeno

Hell in a Bottle by Kyusaku Yumeno

Kyusaku Yumeno's Hell in a Bottle has a pretty cool structure! It's a short story that isn't too crazy in itself, but it's cut up into three bottles that can be rearranged to make different outcomes. Towoji Honojiro's 2013 edition art is gorgeous, though sometimes felt unfitting to the story.

I'm really sorry Kennady, I hope you're all taking it easy. I'm sure Bumble knows how loved and lucky he is to be with you, and you'll continue to make him happy.

I could keep gushing but all in all it makes me excited to check out more of Béla Tarr's work. It feels like he hits this really nice balance of desolation and tenderness.

Last, I always really appreciate when media is confident in its vision & execution, then refuses to tell you its answers. Aside from being fun it makes messages way more personal.

I have a strong feeling what will happen in the characters' futures and I appreciate the restraint of leaving it there.

I liked the flat storybook diorama compositions and use of extreme foreground as page turns.
The use of wind and rain to represent destructive will and oppressive inertia was great. In general I loved the relationship between freedom and order toyed with in every chapter.

I loved the long pacing. It let me exist in the room as if I was just another part of the conversation, sometimes even as a captive observer.
Its care to show mundanity and ugliness makes me feel like I or anyone else could easily be another character on camera.

It's lonely, ugly and entirely the pointless butt of a joke. I love how humans are constantly portrayed no different than wandering cows & horses or pigshit swarming flies soon to be eaten by spiders, yet it still feels written with love rather than just spite or ridicule.

Shot from Sátántangó. A greyscale dilapidated barn with cows wandering out to muddy flatlands.

Sátántangó watched!
It was my first long-form movie and quite a marathon, but I really enjoyed it.
Each scene felt like dropping a new ingredient into a tea cup, and when it's done I get to enjoy stirring and sipping it for a long time.

I tried out Agatha Christie's Last Seance collection, my first time reading her stories actually. It was solid, though I felt myself wanting something throughout it.
Stories I liked were The Lamp, Wireless, The Wife of Kenite, The Call of Wings, The Flock of Geryon & The Dressmaker's Doll.
