Finnish Rap Scene Finnish rap has born just about last year. The first official rap-band in Finland was Paakkoset (with scandinavian dots above all a`s and o). It came from the desert (hehe) at the end of the year 1989. The type of their music was based on heavy, and they just added the rap-beat to it. They used lotsa electric guitars and rough drums. The guys played well, their guitarists had played in a speed-metal band before Paakkoset. Their biggest hit was in fin- nish `Elainraakkaysta` and they sang about animals and how to kill them. They sang in very humoristic tone and they were against that. Paakkoset made only one album and about three months after that the band went down. Nobody knows why... They made few songs during their still down-going career. Then the band totally disappeared, and there was no finnish rap-band anymore. That time lasted for a little while and then the BOOM came. It was called Raptori, the three-men crew full of crazyness. They sang about all tabu things -sex, alcoholism, finnish politicians, people in Tampere, army and Debbie Gibson etc... Their mega-hit `Oi beibi` (Oh Baby) appeared at February and it was at the top of the singlelists for many months. They played a real rap, they stole riffs and effects and made music which nobody had heard before -at least in finnish. They made few singles which all were very very popular. Everybody talked about them -even on the TV. Finally they managed to record an album called MOE! and it was easy to find at the shops. The cover was so fucking terrible! There were red and green circles which mixed eyes and head so well that it almost hypnotized by saying: `Buy me, buy me...` The band made tours in Finland, they visited almost every city here. We are waiting for an new album...
Hausmylly, the new band with mc Nikke T. made an album at first. They did not release singles before album. They played home-made eurobeat, a nasty mix of house and rap. Their music was better than Raptori`s but the lyrics were worse than Raptori`s. Their lyrics were just nice bullshit. They didn`t sing about any problems or real people. Hausmylly has made only one album, just like the other groups. Then mc Nikke T. made his own solo-album with great beat and better lyrics than those which he made in Hausmylly. The album is filled with eurobeat but few songs are only house, some only rap. Mc Nikke T. threw jokes about Paakko- set, Tyson, Mandela and aliens, drugs and all kinds of other funny things. Nikke T. makes the lyrics by himself, the muzaks are made by R.E.L.S. The biggest problem in these bands is that they sing in finnish, propably if they sang in english they would success all around the globe. Where ever you live, if you manage to catch one of these records, listen to it even you wouldn`t understand a word of it.
