Danielle Smith uses notwithstanding clause to declare herself premier of B.C. Prime Minister Mark Carney disagrees with the concept of a premier of one province unilaterally taking over a different province but his hands are tied by his unwillingness to do anything about it.

Inconvenient Indian author Thomas King says he is not part Cherokee Writer ‘still in shock’ after a whistle-blowing organization showed him genealogical evidence that he wasn’t part Indigenous, as he originally assumed

I wonder how common it was for settlers in North America to tell their kids they must be part indigenous when the family tree seemed to be missing branches.

Bluesky Is Clearly Not a Johnny Cash Fan A user was banned for making a Johnny Cash reference. Where's the dividing line between serious threat and jokey pop culture reference?

For @thenation.com, I dug into American Landmark, a major landlord unleashing rent hikes and eviction filings across the South, all while their parent company Electra has financial ties to West Bank settlements and the IDF.

See it in the company's own words:

I’ve written for them. They pay a fair wage. And they pay you quickly. All to say I’ve experienced them on the back end 👌🏾

Illustration of men holding different types of cheese. The text reads:

What kind of cheese is your man!
Take a trip round England's cheeses

Lancashire: Homely and easy-going. Unrivalled for cooking. A soft, sensitive nature though—tends to crumble when the pressure's on.

Wensleydale: Norman ancestry. Came over with William the Conqueror. A very complex and fascinating character. But well worth getting to know. Rather rich but sweet and soft too.

Cheshire Salt-of-the-carth type. Ruddy complexion. Rather hearty. Completely at home with a pint of beer.

Leicester: Craggy, outdoor type.
Has a golden tan, and a mild, friendly character. Very adaptable, though. and very popular.

Double Gloucester: Silkily sophisticated.
Already attractively mature by nature, it continues to improve with age. In great demand for dinner parties.

Stilton: A noble character. Definitely blue-blooded as well as blue-veined. Served by many devoted followers. Mature, mellow and dignified.

Caerphilly: Very smooth indeed. Looks pale and interesting. This is probably due to spending much of life in the dark (Welsh mines for instance). This adventurous character crossed the Bristol Channel about a hundred years ago-this is perhaps where it acquired its salty tang-and most of the Caerphillies come up from Somerset now.

Derby: A hard exterior-but a heart of gold. Workman-like, unpretentious and full of natural goodness and commonsense. Especially Sage Derby, of course.

English Cheddar: Gorgeous and slightly nutty.

Georgia Democrats had not won a statewide race that wasn't for a federal office since 2006.

They won two races tonight, both against GOP incumbents.

The margins? 62% to 38% in both.

to me, this moment is peak "hyung will do it". seokjin drags taehyung out because he's emotional and crying after singing on such a big stage again after so long. he teases tae with a joke about enlistment that he knows will piss tae off slightly enough that he snaps out of his tears a little.

Surreal to read this as I reach the part in Virginia Guiffre’s biography where Epstein calls her about the money-laundry investigation.

Halloween decoration on a green lawn with yellow and brown scattered leaves. There is a fake black grave marker with white text which says “I Did My Own Research.” In front of the grave marker are two plastic skeletal hans and forearms that are positioned as if they are clawing up from below the grass.

What Happened When AI Came for Craft Beer A prominent beer competition introduced an AI-judging tool without warning. The judges and some members of the wider brewing industry were pissed.

This happened in my metaphorical back yard!

From @404media.co:
'XhAle Brew Co., based out of Alberta [...] asked for its entry fees of $565 to be refunded, and for the “destruction of XhAle's data collected during, and post-judging for the Best Beer App.”'
