Burly-Baby roll call!
Do you consider me to be your burly-mama?
I want to show off all the fabulous performers that I’ve helped bring to the stage!

It’s not hard to tell how much I loved performing in and hosting the Rouge Studios Halifax showcase!!!

Looking up bunny burlesque acts to make sure I’m not accidentally replicating someone else’s act and I’m reminded of one of my FAVE acts!

8 years ago, I had a hysterectomy.
Adenocarcinoma in situ of the cervix. That’s “Pre-cancer”
I had to remind my doctor to test again after suspicious results.
That’s why it was found and treated early!
PLEASE, friends with cervixes, get swabbed regularly! It could literally save your life!!!
If you have important news, wait until tomorrow. I’m not believing anything today.
When you picture a cartoon version of someone who’s camping, what are they wearing?
Ok, I’ve seen some fellow rejectees of BHOF 2025, but I haven’t seen anyone post that they were accepted! I wanna know! Who’s performing?!?
I’m also bummed because getting in was the only way I’d consider going to BHOF this year. As a Canadian, I don’t feel it’s wise to travel to the US. I’m going to miss my annual “pilgrimage” and the friends that I only get to see there. I hope things get fixed soon to make it safer for ALL. 💙

I applied to BHOF this year with what I feel is my best work, and I got rejected. Yeah, I’m bummed and it’s hard to not feel like my best will never be “enough.” But logically I know that I am up against the best of the best and my chances were slim to begin with.

Congrats to all this who got their BHOF acceptance today!
To those that didn’t, try not to let it dishearten you.

I recommend having a little “signature” thing that reminds you when you’re in your burlesque persona. This can be an accessory, a particular thing you do with your makeup/hair, or a voice/mannerism.
For years, I was never out and about “as Kay” without a hair flower.
Hope this helps! 💙 Kay
How to get “in character” as your burlesque persona?
I had a student ask a great question: How do I remember to introduce myself with my stage name etc. when networking at shows/events?
My response will be in the reply to this…
David Bowie left us in 2016, and now…
It's back for 2025! I'm re-starting the Pay What You Can Burlesque Lecture/Workshop series!
Members of the community will present workshops/lectures. Attendees pay what they can/want and the presenters get ALL the money!
Presenters apply here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
Super fun pastie making and tassel twirling workshop with Rouge Studios Halifax!
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be performing in the Atlantic Burlesque Festival again this year!
If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's intentional. They're calling it "flooding the zone." The intent is to overwhelm and exhaust us so we can not effectively resist. Something simple you can do right now now is to make sure to take breaks and rest.
My burly-mamma, Cadence, and I have started a really cool #HalifaxBurlesqueHistory project!
Do you have photos/stories etc to share? Check us out at HalifaxBurlesqueHistory.blogspot.com

I’ve been involved burlesque for almost 20 years continuously. I feel like I’ve played a part in shaping the local scene. I’m proud of my contributions, and I also acknowledge that I have SO much more to learn and SO many people before me to honour.
Now that you’ve learned about them, make space for them! Many of your predecessors are still very much around. Invite them to perform in your shows, invite them to host workshops and lectures, and pay them! Don’t forget who brought you here when you get caught up in your own hustle and ego.
