Mushroomy! That’s hard to describe. There’s lots of other mushrooms. They were very tasty but not the most delicious wild mushroom I’ve tasted.

Interesting.

Ah yes, chanterelles are lovely. I find they tend to need more cooking time than your average fungi. A good 12-15 minutes of gentle frying.

I just fried them in butter and ate them with salt & pepper. Nothing else. I always do this with mushrooms I haven’t tried before.

I’ve been foraging for what, ten years or so… and this is the first time I have ever found Calocybe gambosa - St. George’s Mushroom. I’ve looked for them for years. I was very pleased and will remember where I found them for next year. Tasty! #FungiFriends

Good luck and hope you find some. If you don't, you will definitely find them at The Great Plantation at Heathfield. I've been over and looked... they're there :)

A triple-threat! Three new Ear-pick fungi sprout from an old Ear-pick fungus sprouting the more typical way from a Douglas fir cone. Another shriveled up sibling fungi lilts a bit to the right all shriveled and far less cool without anything sprouting from their noggin. Note that the 3x have a couple of other knots attempting to become fruiting body. The older fungi are a dark brown with the one sprouting children out of their head still presenting a few teeth sticking out from under their cap. The 3x younger ones have a reddish brown stem with a lighter colored tan cap. A composite of 36 pictures were focus stacked to generate this single image.

These were an absolute treat to find today!

Oof, well done! I've been on the lookout for these for years. They're so rare.

Hahaaa. No way! I do that. Haha. Glad I’m among like minded people on here. I found all sorts of dung fungi that way.

I have since read that it's called Batesian mimicry. They mimic the poisonous ladybird larva because they're harmless. Very cool.

Haha! Now those I have seen. I'd like to see more of them.

I found a large number of these on a fallen beech on my walk today, seemingly feeding on a fungus. Never seen them before. I looked them up when I got home. Endomychus coccineus - False Ladybird larva. They’re very cool looking.
