The Four Tempers

All aspects of this world were created in the image of the four true gods. Thus are we made in their image. In blood, bone, and marrow, as the Four balance the world, so too is the presence of the gods balanced within us as the four Tempers: Blood, Bile, Char, and Silt. When we live in virtue, in the body as well as spirit, our Tempers are kept in balance; and so too do our sins threaten that sacred trust between body and soul, man and the world, humanity and the true gods. Should our Tempers run amok, we risk tearing the veil between our world and the Miasma asunder. Should the veil be torn such that no weaver can put it right again, then woe: for no matter our weeping and rending of mortal flesh, no matter how the gods may pity us, on that fateful day the Shadow and all Nine Pits of Hell shall devour this world whole.

– From a novice’s catechism of the Crowned Covenant, copied at Montreval Abbey during the reign of Tristan the Torchbearer.

It's always fun to write diegetic introductions to aspects of a game's world. (The humoral theory-based stats system in HOTBLOOD is an offshoot of another in-dev project, THE LONGEST REST. Working on HB has been really helpful in getting through some blocks in TLR!)

This was written SPECIFICALLY for me.

I don't really drink because it's expensive and I get too sleepy, but every time I've had a really delicious cocktail, I could have downed three of them in an hour (and been flat on the floor right after).

The thing that keeps me from eating five gummy edibles is that they don't taste good. I know me and my sweet tooth, you cannot give me delicious treats and tell me to stop at one.

Torrent Torrent is a spectral steed and the player's mount in Elden Ring. Torrent is a spectral steed resembling a horse and a goat with two short horns on his head and a white mane. Prior to meeting the Tarn...

This is a little weak, but I 100% support the theory that FromSoftware named the horse in their open world RPG specifically to ruin search results for “Elden Ring Torrent”.

Today's Ginger, plus a bonus friend

Ginger and Pie, her mate, have been visiting almost as long as Coopuccino. I think they live and nest on this building somewhere, they never seem to be far

Three books from Iron Circus - Rigsby WI vol 2, Meal and The Lucky Poor

Really happy I got my backer rewards for Rigsby WI today! Of course there’s the central book, the second volume of @secase.bsky.social ’s story of turn of the century small town teens, and two Iron Circus extras I’m excited to try: The Lucky Poor (about being given a Habitat for Humanity house)

In theory I could have been in favor of it because the menus on the payment portal for submitting requests were kind of vague. But keeping the payment portal and shunting you off to a very blank website with totally opaque UI was not destined for success.

Meet the Himalayan Monal! 🌈 Males flaunt iridescent feathers to attract mates. Found in the Himalayas, this bird lives at altitudes up to 16,000 ft (4,877 m) in summer! It uses its hooked beak to forage for insects, seeds, and berries.

LMAO property management had SO much angry feedback of 'what the fuck is this' that they already rolled it back.

They're so fancy-looking! Like an illustration of Wondrous Creatures at a fairytale menagerie.

> They are highly vocal birds and have several different calls that we can hear in the wild. The most common are "laser gun calls", which are a series of piercing sounds, and doubled, wooden "touk-touk" sounds. It is also possible to hear calls such as "koa-koa-koa" and "guay-guay-guay-guay-gwuck".

I forgot to add the BIRD. Behold the crested coua, photographed by Joel Sartore at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium!

A sassy mostly-gray bird with a sweep of gray crest, dark tail feathers longer than its body tipped with white, and a patch of brilliant turquoise skin around its eye.

The striking face of this bird reveals that the turquoise skin patch around its eye tints lavender towards the small black beak. The crest is a little shaggier than a cockatiel's, the same pale gray as the rest of the bird's head.

> A member of the cuckoo family, the crested coua is found only along coastal regions of Madagascar. While this bird is capable of flight, it is not a strong flier and will usually opt to travel by hopping from branch to branch.

To see prop roots on a larger scale, look to the palms and pandans. 📷1: Clinostigma harlandii, a palm. 📷1: Pandanus sp (to get an idea of the scale of this giant, check out the green cap in the lower left). #Arecaceae #Pandanaceae #root #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

My dental hygienist and I were talking today about the sharp rise she's (anecdotally) seen in grinding/clenching over the last five or so years. Maybe that would be a telling metric to track, how many of us are cribbing like horses on a fencepost, alongside the economic numbers.

many such shops aimed at or run by women, unfortunately.

I say unfortunately because I am a working woman with a schedule I have to keep to and I can't eff off between 10 am and noon alternate Tuesdays just to get my needlepoint supplies.

inexplicably, some restaurants here do this too
