Beth worked as a doctor for years until a transphobe turned up. Now, she's had to leave her job, leave her home, move to the other side of the world and is still being hounded and harassed by the media and cult.
She did nothing but exist as trans in the orbit of Sandie Peggie.

Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...
Tweet by Martina Navratilova. "Predator. That is how he should register. A sexual predator…" quote-tweeting a tweet by "Biology Rules OK" about Dr. Beth Upton, a trans woman
This tweet is highly defamatory and Martina Navratilova should be fired from BBC Sport for it.
It demonstrates an horrendous level of hatred for a trans woman (who was cleared of all wrongdoing in a recent tribunal) because she is a trans woman.
Fascists and Nazis hate history, and historians; but understand the power of history. Thats why, across the world, they work so hard to control HOW we tell stories about the past, to drive out diverse critical voices and perspectives, to ensure a narrative that makes them look good.
And sure, that "if" contains a lot of privilege, but show me some discourse where it doesn't.
A phrase from Captain Awkward springs to mind: sometimes the cheapest way to pay for something is with money.
Time, energy, inconvenience and opportunity costs can all be reasonably factored in IF the amount of money isn't immediately prohibitive.
I've missed trains. I've very rarely missed even cheap flights. On reflection, I'd be better off if I'd been more neurotic about the trains and simply re-booked some flights.
The trouble with opposing this kind of proposal is that it's so obviously opposable, so completely and utterly draconian and unworkable (but I repeat myself), that the only proportionate response is to aim a hot stream of lion's piss in its direction. At which point you get accused of being a loon.
I'm in, as long as nobody puts mayo on them.
Can we
Can we eat the chips?
Poirot, ever damn time: And it was YOU, Sister Mary Ambrose, who burned those papers to hide the fact that you are a recovering kleptomaniac!
Sister Mary Ambrose: So first of all, what the fuck?
Oh, absolutely get out of there! Especially with Poirot because even if you're not murdered, he *will* reveal your most shameful secret for literally no good reason in the run-up to naming the murderer.
'Bell removed Romeo and Juliet from his syllabus because “in Act III, Romeo and Juliet have sex, and that falls under this very broadly defined sexuality [topics ban].” He also didn’t teach about Joan of Arc this semester.'
What an actual lack of freedom of speech looks like in universities. 3/3

Apart from all the other many horrors of this, a journalistic profession that employed tens of thousands of people was necessarily better-connected to civil society, in myriad ways, than one that struggles to employ hundreds, and yet still claims to dictate the national agenda.
There's a very odd but noticeable sense among pundits of a certain generation that universities exist to be venues for public speeches rather than places where people live and work.
university is SUPPOSED to challenge your beliefs! unless of course your belief is that trans people are awful, in which case awwww poor ickle baby, did the nasty mean people exist near you, awwwww poor baby, here let me give you a book deal and a podcast so you can tell us how scared you were
It probably does also need further discussion of the fact that, when the government forces a private institution, such as a university, to platform a specific speaker voicing specific ideologies, through threat of a fine, that no longer constitutes free speech. That is compelled speech.
We used to have to get written permission if someone was going to appear in the background of something filmed. How are tech bros allowed to just consume every photo you've ever taken, analyse and name the people in it and use it for their own money making?

As a former corporate lawyer who shoe horned my way into a big firm in Sydney by taking a job as a PA, asking to work on discovery, proving myself worthy of the firm paying for cross qualification to work there - AI has totally shut that route down. AI needs mitigating before embracing
