Thankful for all the editors and first readers putting so much time and effort into this! Also thankful for my writing bestie, @adskyan.bsky.social for her support during not just #revpit but also the querying and writing process. <3

There was a discord server? lol I wasn't aware!
Mix of both. I do small paragraphs for each chapter so I know what plot points I need to hit. I don't outline every detail though. Characters still like to surprise me, and make me change chapters or add stuff. Sneaky characters!
And the conversation and pain I'll have to go through with her. Being a parent is hard. Dealing with loss is hard. Being human is hard.
I'll miss you @johnbrantingham.bsky.social. You were a very special person and now a star has gone dark in the sky. (end)
I hate having my 6 year old cry and tell me she doesn't want me to die and I have to explain that people die and no one lives forever, but she can do everything to live a good life and live safe and hopefully she'll live a long life. I dread when one of her grandparents dies.
This hits too close to home and brings all the depression that hit when I lost my younger brother 11 years ago back up. No one likes loss of course, but there's been so much of it going around lately within my circle of friends. I hate it.
This is just my selfish side of it all. There's also just the profound loss of losing someone who was a talented poet and writer and just a generally amazing person that I'm struggling with. It's easier to just fixate on the smaller side than the bigger loss.
The plan was for him to read my novel and help me edit it. I literally was going to had it over to him in a few weeks after my most recent changes. And now I'll never get to know what he thinks of the whole thing. I'll never get to hear his brilliant advice. It's mindboggling.
He helped me with my first novel back in 2004 or 2005. And has been helping me with suggestions for the scenes I read during his 'office hours' on Fridays. He was always supportive. Always kinda. Always getting on me about my pessimistic attitude.
Yesterday, I found out my writing mentor and an old professor from college passed away. He's been in my life for over twenty years, and for the past 9 months I spent time with him every friday (with a group where we all shared our writing). (1/?) #writingcommunity
Yessss. DCC! :D
Oh my gosh! I got my first partial request from an agent! I'm so excited, even if it amounts to a rejection again in the end.
Sent a full draft of my novel to about 10 different friends who haven't seen it yet and are romance/fantasy readers. Can't wait to see what people think now that it's in a more polished form. My first novel I never managed to fully edit, this one has 6-7 full edits done. ๐
I don't really have any that I would say are favorites (it's like picking your favorite child!). But I would say the one most influential was Anne McCaffrey and her Pern world. It's what really sucked me into reading and inspired me to write.
I'm a reptile gal, and I think all of them have their own unique personalities. Had some of the chillest cresties too and some that were just brats. lol But leos will always hold a spot in my heart.
Larger orange leopard gecko, with spotted fat tail looking up at the camera while a tiny orange baby gecko is crawling on her.
Two of my lovely angel geckos. Newt and one of her babies. Newt was over 12 when I lost her. (And no they weren't housed together, just was a quick cute picture) Leopard geckos are one of my fav gecko species. I miss her so much.
Not sure my genre would fit with your vibe. But I have a bunch of friends giving it a read before I send it to my professional editor. :)
I know you like genre crossovers, but how do you feel like there are crossovers that don't work well? Or that they aren't like the 'norm' and thus suffer because of it?

35k! Holy cow! I mean, I've cut/re-written more than the 7k. That was just the most recent cut. But 35k. Ug! That sounds rough.
Finished my most recent edit just in time to submit to #revpit! Decided to do a snip/tighten and cut the manuscript down by almost 7k words. Not sure how I managed that, but I'm happier with it now.
Aww. Congratulations Samantha!! I hope you get lots of good baby snuggles and aren't too sleep-deprived!
When rejections begin killing my writing motivation, it's time to take some steps back. I think the hardest thing with trying to get trad published is just the complete lack of real feedback. You don't even know where the issue is. If there's even really an issue. It's maddening!
Is it a good idea to start a novella because you're trying to distract yourself from waiting to hear from mentorships and agents about your novel? Probably not. But I admit I'm curious how this is going to pan out. Not the next character I thought I'd be writing about though! #WritingCommunity
Definitely would -not- consider Pern books romantasy. They are not heavy on the romance. AM's Pern books don't fit at all. Coming from a fan of romantasy and pern.
It surprises me how few of some of these prompt words I have to be honest! Not sure if it's a good or bad thing though.
Also, you think this snippet is heartbreaking? I'm curious what made it feel that way for you.
Okay, this one was a bit better; I had a whole two to choose from. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #romantasy
I'm shocked I don't have a single 'shout' in my entire novel. Screams is close, right? :) #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #romantasy
The #WIPSnips words for August 11th through August 17th. August 11 - real; August 12 - split; August 13 - cheap; August 14 - enemy; August 15 - razor; August 16 - allergic; August 17 - crawl.
Here are the #WIPSnips words for August 11th through August 17th, which just so happens to be the 100th week of #WIPSnips! How fun!
