Kotlin user since 201X here. In general, I avoid receiver functions because it feels like speaking two different dialects simultaneously. I think it causes context switching and draws attention away from the business logic. Though I sometimes use .let to name an expression in a bounded scope.

I can do FP in any language that supports functions as values, which includes all Lisp variants. But if the language does not enforce purity, discipline is required to avoid impure functions. Which is hard if the team is larger than 1 person.
Already in the 70s, Larry Constantine and others stated that functional cohesion is better than temporal cohesion with regard to avoiding defects and improve maintainability, even though they didn’t relate it to functional programming as such.
Programming with pure functions. Effects are just values until they are handled at the application boundary.
Consequently, effect-returning functions may be called in a different order than the effects are composed, so calls may be ordered by functional rather than temporal dependencies.
