I definitely can be recklessly optimistic 😁

I agree, Democrats should appeal to all voters who want to help everyone in the US thrive in our democracy. I expect many former MAGA voters will join us to help them solve real problems.
I don’t know this particular candidate, but I do know that Democrats should be open to former MAGA voters who are willing to support our candidates. I canvass for Democrats who win.
The President doesn’t think or act in two week time increments. Let’s hope this lasts through the night.
I caution against over interpreting the HD 98 result. Spanberger wasn’t on the ballot and, from what I could tell, local Dems weren’t that involved. Plus turnout was much smaller than last year. I’m not saying that redistricting is a slam dunk, just that HD 98 isn’t a bellwether on it.
That’s great 😃🎉
Sounds much more serious than the other celebration today. But not throwing shade, since I’m flying home from a St. P’s Day event right now.
I got one of these. It doesn’t make sense, one way or the other
Plan A of VA’s current redistricting system failed, but the Backup system worked out OK. A good permanent fix would be nice, but voters may ask, “Again with all this?”
Her lies are SOP. Required even. What I look forward to are her insults 😁
Some other local government are telling their local election officials to stop preparing. Does that put those election officials in a tough legal spot?
Del. Elizabeth Guzman did a Spanish SOTU response in 2018!
I remember a law school prof shaking his head in disbelief about boneheaded procedural moves. That lesson stuck
Originalism is a double edged sword. Of course, we still need to amend the VA constitution, but this is good for now. More voters to canvass 😃
It was great to help Democrats as they picked their candidate for HD-17 today! Everyone agreed that four high quality people stepped up on VERY short notice to run.
I think we’re at 4 candidates in HD 17…
I count 3 Dem candidates in HD 17 - so far.
So right. Voters don’t fall in love with a party, they vote for its candidates. And reserve the option to change their votes at the next election.
As always, the question is whether there is any day when Virginians somewhere are NOT voting 😁 Admittedly, there are a few, but they are rare.
The proposed VA constitutional amendment allows for redistricting if a single other state does it (unless they do it under a court order). Doesn’t specify which political party is driving it. Given what VA leaders have said, they are going ahead.
There are a lot of other Democrats in the primary, but from what you’re saying, Osyf was much stronger than the others. Is that right?
No surprise. Republicans will run candidates in upcoming elections. Just because Democrats won big this year doesn’t mean we’ll win next time. Keep working
So true. Virginia votes every year, but for different offices and political environments. @chaznuttycombe.bsky.social seems to have sorted this out better than the others.
Interesting. I hadn’t heard that. It certainly applies in most places I canvass.
Virginians I canvass vote for candidates of different races, ethnicities, and religions other than their own. We get the best candidates as a result.
This campaign had the best coordination I’ve seen at the top and with the delegate candidates. I always canvassed for the entire ticket.
And if Mike Jones — or any office-holder — wins, then THEY need to be replaced. More voting for us!
Depending on how far back you go, good idea to consider air quotes around “Democrats“
After big election win, party in power thinks it was total endorsement of world view
Dems thought it after 2020
GOP thought it after 2024
Reality is Americans have lot of different views
Many voters lend support temporarily
Good for both parties to keep that in mind
A Spanish speaking voter I canvassed was impressed by Spanberger’s Spanish language ad. Said she did it well.
