i dont think i've had a good in person RSD experience since 2012 or so. if it helps record stores, great, but i have to
be content with going to shops at least once a week the rest of the year 🤷🏻♂️
(...and ordering the limited RSD releases i want on discogs, hopefully ideally from indie shops)

LP cover for Ministry - Chicago/Detroit 1982 live album
i always forget ministry started as one of the best early 80s fake british synthpop bands out there and then something like this comes around and it's a delight
it's getting late so i'd really love to know if my kid can to school tomorrow but what i'd love more is for the teachers and workers at her school to be paid fairly and with adequate budgets and support

Schools are like "hey lock up your cell phones they're too damaging to the learning process. now please open up your lying plagiarism machine and start generating content"
truly ashamed of my alma mater, where we learned to cut actual film with a razor on a flatbed. i wish everyone could have that opportunity.

Another day, another Keith Fullerton Whitman @kfw.bsky.social cassette and coffee
as well as trying to completely devalue longstanding human forms of creativity.
but, they are, so fuck 'em
part of the issue is that yeah, it's not going away, but it's also not "filmmaking"- it's "something else." i would theoretically have less of a problem with it existing (plagiarism / energy issues aside momentarily) if the financiers weren't gleefully trying to put an entire industry out of work,
i don't think they care/know about me; i'm not on their radar as an alumnus. drop in the bucket. 🤷🏻♂️
(i have gone back many times to speak about sound design, via a great professor of mine. the NYU institution doesn't seem particularly interested in alumni accomplishments unless they're very famous)
so fuck nyu.
the students deserve better than being slopified
it's a very long story, but i was excluded from making my senior film for it being too non-mainstream, found a loophole to make it anyway, then wasn't allowed to screen it at the end of year showcase, then not allowed to walk graduation, then made the first feature of anyone in my graduating class.
but also not surprised. NYU always had a rep of being more friendly towards non-mainstream, experimental, indie leaning filmmakers - but this was very much not the case the way the institution treated me (and my work) 25 years ago. (students and teachers excluded here- lots of great people)
