the 20th century era of the postcolonial nation-state movement is dead, transformed to neocolonies led by bourgeois patriarchs who threw out anticolonial liberation to try & get a seat at the table w/ the White Man and join the fraternity in the brotherhood of nations, women & lgbtq people be damned

The bill passed both houses, no surprise, & India is degraded once more. 'Trans men, trans non binary persons and trans women who are not kinner-hijra will NOT be legally recognised as trans anymore! Bill passed without community or NCTP consultation. Calls to differ to select committee ignored.'

For me, the biggest takeaway is that many people in charge of trans healthcare view transition as harm, as a failure, as an unfavourable outcome to avoid. They fundamentally conceive of trans existence as a disease to cure, and feel themselves righteous advocating for our eradication.

So the Lok Sabha in India introduced "The Transgender Persons Amendment Act", which basically rolls back protections for trans people, on the basis that you can't identify into a protected class.

It seems to allege that only intersex and "non-consensually transitioned" people deserve protections.

Sign the Petition Oppose the amendment redefining transgender identity in India

Not a lot of Indians on here to talk about this, but here's a petition opposing the Indian governments move 'to redefine the term “transgender person” & remove the principle of self-identified gender identity from the law [and reverse] the constitutional progress achieved in recent years.'

The hidden story behind India’s remarkable election results: lethal heat | Amitava Kumar While Indian exit polls didn’t predict the BPJ’s loss of majority, the effects of climate change and increased visibility of religion in politics have long been forecast, says Amitava Kumar

"...but there was no Modi wave. There was only the heatwave. Just this week, in my hometown of Patna, in eastern India, I met a man...who told me that the level of heat had proved fatal for people in his own village: he wasn’t going to risk voting, and neither was his mother."

Only weak men are threatened by Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Barbie If men are upset by "the unabashed celebration of all things female," that's their problem to solve — not women's

Despite the strain caused from my eyerolling, I wrote a response to the Washington Post op-ed from Christine Emba.

Men are not in "danger" because Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are popular. Women don't "leave men out" by celebrating their independence.

Hospitals overwhelmed, given hours to evacuate

A combination of Israeli air raids and an Israeli siege that has cut off access to water, electricity, food and fuel has devastated health facilities in the beleaguered strip, where medical workers now say they face impossible choices under the evacuation orders.

The international medical group Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, issued a statement on Friday saying Israeli authorities had given it just two hours to evacuate a hospital in northern Gaza.

Can't wait to hear about MSF now being part of Hamas.
