Great to see my @commenergyengland.bsky.social colleague @coppicejt.bsky.social in action at this #WaveneyValley #Sustainable Communities Conference led by MP

Christmas tshirt weather.
I have written about a national co-op of locally ecoliterate and independent RIVERKEEPERS, with powers to range, record, and regulate designated stretches of channel/catchment areas. Meetings in public.
We have a four rivers citizen science project underway here in Suffolk. www.debenclimate.org/four-rivers
Here are all the amazing shortlisted organisations for the #CommunityEnergy Awards 2025 👏🥳🎉
100% agree with you on this. Nothing winds me up more than people like Musk and Thiel contorting LOTR for their own attempts to dominate others. Thank you for writing it.
Their strategy hasn't been great politically. Focus has been on 'big stuff' offshore wind, CCUS, SMRs, pylons, NSIP solar, but 12 months have been wasted with no movement on the Local Power Plan. Thousands of communities could be progressing onshore wind, solar and smart supply with right support.
I just want them to announce the Local Power Plan details. There are thousands of communities wanting to be part of the solution being left on the sidelines. If there's bottlenecks with grid transmission and offshore wind, trust people and give them the resources to do community wind and solar.
It needs to be both at the same time of course, but people won't electrify if electricity is expensive.
I'm not so fussed. The fastest way to bring overall household bills down, and to save CO2, is for people and businesses to adopt EVs and heat pumps, rather than squeezing a few more % off grid carbon intensity. Grid is already clean enough for big savings if we ramp up demand side electrification.
How much of the food and eating out increase is secondary energy inflation? Energy input component of diesel and fertilisers, tractors, delivery vans, gas hobs, heating venues, electricity?
A lot of the light industrial manufacturing I've seen closed recently often haven't had any onsite solar or wind power. I wonder how much this would have made a difference to their viability?
Community energy allows local people to produce, consume and own energy where they live, together.
It is incredibly positive to see community energy continue to feature so prominently in the delivery of the Clean Power Mission.
Very timely, thanks.
Cepro and SNRG seem to be doing interesting things in this space. And Energy Local.
Two energy projects with a divine connection this week, Croydon Community Energy install 96kW of solar on Archbishop Tenison's school. And the CofE unveil a rooftop solar and air source heat pump upgrade to Lambeth Palace, office of the Archbishop of Canterbury!
Already had solar farms in The Detectorists. Community Energy has better anecdotes. Better story is nimbys Vs NSIP solar farm developer for the jeopardy resolving in a shared ownership arrangement with nice BNG uplift.
A🧵of pics from our fantastic Summer Conference today #InvestinCommunityEnergy #CommunityEnergy #CEF2005
There is a great session on how #CommunityEnergy and #LocalAuthorities can collaborate.

A group of co-operators gather outside 10 Downing Street, some taking photos as they wait in front of the iconic black door and cream stone archway.

This week our Chief Executive, Emma Bridge, attended a reception at No. 10 Downing Street to highlight the contribution of co-operatives and mutuals to UK growth and prosperity. #coops #communityenergy
Resistance is futile... 🐙
The leaders of Community Energy Wales, Scotland and England met Minister Michael Shanks, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero) in London today to press for improved conditions to enable community energy to thrive. Our arguments were well received.
There's some real energy in Parliament by this week⚡️
The Government recommitted through the GB Energy Bill to put power in the hands of communities, producing up to 8GW of green, clean, community-owned energy.
Bit of a different response to this thread on here Vs the other place 🤣
Upcoming #CommunityEnergy event hosted by the Energy Learning Network.
A great session to join if you are thinking about social value and how you can report on the impact your organisation is making.

100%. Trump getting elected didn't change the physics of the planet's atmosphere, nor the UK's geography of heavily depleted north sea oil and gas reserves and an abundance of renewable energy potential. Delivering climate action that benefits us all is how the UK will prosper.
