I mean, I clearly agree with you—that’s basically what I just said 🤷🏽

But we didn’t pay the tariffs directly, only secondarily due to increased retail costs as a result of the tariffs (as well as add-on price gouging to increase corporate profits with tariffs as a cover). And so corporations are just going to profit even more while we continue to get screwed.
my angry post about this case this morning is now an angry article

kushner is not a diplomat.
he does not negotiate on behalf of the interests of the US
he represents the interests of himself and his investors.
WOW: A stunning new report in the WSJ reveals that military advisers intentionally excluded Donald Trump from the command room during the recent high-stakes operation to extract a downed U.S. airman in Iran, because they feared his erratic behavior could jeopardize the mission. 1/
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
The Israeli army struck civilians in the Lebanese city of Mayfadoun.
And then, the Israelis double-tapped the medics who arrived onto the scene.
And then, they triple-tapped the next wave of medics.
And then, they did it one more time for good measure.
"U.S. and Iran are said to near a framework for future negotiations" New York Times headline April 17, 2026. Story by Michael Crowley and Farmaz Fassihi https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/17/us/strait-of-hormuz-open-iran-talks-negotiations.html
US and Iran are said (passive voice) to near (aren't at) a framework (not a deal) for future negotiations (to talk later)
In other words, they can't even agree on what to hold a meeting about.
Peace reigns! All rejoice!
The only ones who really lost out were America’s wealthiest citizens, who had to give up their plutocratic control over government. In our current revival of the Gilded Age, they now hope to restore it with Thomas’s help. trib.al/Z0bqFZ3
The Strait is closed again. How many more times do we think this back and forth will happen?

Democrats planning to run in November’s midterm elections have been advised not to antagonise pro-AI campaign groups that have amassed more than $300mn to fight for the industry’s priorities. The warnings by top party consultants, corroborated by people close to four different campaigns and party strategists speaking on the condition of anonymity, come despite internal polling for Democrats showing widespread public support for tougher AI rules.
They're calling it the best democracy ever.

It's now been three years since the RSF began a campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide in Sudan. We need to save lives and pass the Stand Up for Sudan Act to cease all U.S. weapon sales to the United Arab Emirates. Shame on our country for enabling another genocide. RASHIDA TLAB 1:02 REP. RASHIDA TLAIB (D) Michigan little to nothing to actually stop it.
Best member of Congress on Palestine is also the best on Sudan— shocker

the basic theory of DOGE was that if powerful people said it was fine it didn’t matter what the law said.
I think proving that theory wrong is worth significant effort
Exactly one year ago today:
When we create a state that is so focused on cruelty, we are always going to empower people like this. The cruelty is not a byproduct, it is an inevitable consequence.
Alexa is there any history for what happens when a government stops feeding their military
A photo of a tray with three sections empty. One has chopped carrot in it. The other has what can only be described as a posit of brown dog vomit and an insole liner of a sneaker (or a used panty liner from the mid 1700s). The kind of meal that would have you happily tossing yourself overboard.
NEW: Growing fears of food shortages on USS Tripoli & other US ships in the Middle East.
This photo is the kind of meals now being served. It was sent by a sailor to her family.
Families are now trying to send food parcels to the ships.

Personally don't recommend these. As the article notes, these properties are typically achieved through PFAS, which can shed carcinogens in your home (which you then inhale) or come out in the wash (polluting waterways for decades). Will try to do a thread on how to treat stains in the wash.

kinda funny how Republican voters are inarguably happier when a Dem is president. they don’t actually want to be in charge of shit, they want to roll coal and whip themselves into a frenzy over wholly imaginary liberal tyranny. now they’ve caught the car and it fuckin sucks
Trump: "I had to go to a war. I had to go and fight either a military operation-- some people would call it a war. Some people call it a military operation. It was easy."
I mean, Jesus Christ man.
