We'd head here for starters:

But you're also pretty handy for The Harp, which everyone else loves.

My Heart Leaps Up — Beer, Graft and Tourism in Cumbria — Pellicle I first met Matt and Michelle when they worked at Hawkshead Brewery, Matt as the head brewer, and Michelle as the head of marketing. In the 2010s, Hawkshead was the pride and joy of Cumbria’s independ...

When Hawkshead Brewery shed most of its team and closed its tap room, I thought beer in Cumbria would suffer. I needn't have worried.

My latest story for @pelliclemag.com is about the breweries and all the people and pubs that make up this county.

I quite like CAMRA geography! Gives something else for people to gripe about, like 1974 county boundary changes.

We also chose not to make that point in the post.

Yes, we've seen them, and this pub definitely fits.

Good Pubs are Hard To Find (in the national press) — Katie Mather Writes The praise being heaped upon The Highland Laddie of late is undoubtedly deserved—it is a marvel of a pub, run well and glowing bright and welcoming in the heart of a much unloved corner of Leeds. I am finding it interesting, however, to see reviewers like William Sitwell rush to find the syrupy ad

Woke up and chose violence

A contender for “best pub in Bristol” that is definitely not in Bristol The Rising Sun at Frampton Cotterell, South Gloucestershire, was named the best pub in Bristol by the local CAMRA branch in 2025. But the thing is... it’s in Frampton Cotterell, South Gloucestershire.

BLOG POST: Notes on The Rising Sun, Frampton Cotterell, whose appeal is perhaps down to being frozen in time. 🍺🍻

A sign at the Old Red Lion which reads ‘Bass 🔺 Available on gravity or through the pump’

The north-south divide runs through the Old Red Lion in Litchborough, Northants. While I was there yesterday two young men asked the landlady to take the sparkler off the Bass, which means - brace yourselves - this pub serves Bass three ways! Can anywhere else say the same? 🤔

An uplighter lamp next to a wooden panel with an old son saying “Goof Beer Guide 1991 – we are in it!”

A very pleasant 3+ hour cross country walk to “Bristol’s best pub” for 2025 which is very much not in Bristol.

Mural in a local pub of what I can only suspecy is Ozzy Osbourne, Prince (????), George Michael, Amy Winehouse and Shane McGowan all toasting pints of Guinness. 3 of them being alcoholics, obviously.

An Easter crawl from Kingsdown to St Jude’s | Boak & Bailey We spent Sunday pootling around the pubs of central Bristol neighbourhoods Kingsdown, Stokes Croft and St Jude’s and found them delightfully peaceful and photogenic.

BLOG POST: Notes on a crawl of some Bristol pubs that looked gorgeous in the spring sunlight but were perhaps quieter than those running them might have liked. 🍻🍺

Btw, in defence of the Rastal Teku Mug, I quite like it as it's a little like a modernised version of the original Harp tankard maybe? Although can see it being quite a divisive shape. But as with all glassware, I really need to handle one to see if I really like it ...
