Had to join in the post-race photo op - proud of my time though! #manchestermarathon #running ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
I really couldnโt have asked for anything better here, considering I just needed to take it easy today. Nevertheless, I will happily take this result and use it as my benchmark!
Now for lots of stretching, rest, recovery, and food! Training for Stockholm resumes in a few daysโฆ โค๏ธ๐ช
But it didnโt! There was a mini-wall that kicked in around 34-35 kms, but I managed to maintain pacing more or less. And I ended up with a chip time of 3:36:36 - more than one hour off last yearโs London timeโฆ
So I had a point to prove with this one. I made sure I trained properly, and did as many shorter races as possible in the leadup, including 3 half marathons! And during the race today, I always had it in the back of my head that the same thing would happen like last yearโฆ
I never did elaborate on what happened at London last year - I got a calf injury around mile 17, which meant I had to shuffle/powerwalk the rest of the way to the finish line. I had been on track for sub-4 hours up to that point, but still managed to miraculously finish in 4:36:59โฆ

adidas Manchester Marathon - NEW PB BY ONE HOUR!!
adidas Stockholm Marathon Plan (Week 20/26)

Manchester was the main training B-race for Stockholm! Meant to be conversational, and it was fairly much like that for most of the raceโฆ
Almost timeโฆ #manchestermarathon

I felt a few little nigglies in the lower legs, but nothing that a combination of stretching, heat cream and massage gun wonโt help with before tomorrow.
In the meantimeโฆ this is it! No more running until the big one tomorrow โค๏ธ๐ช
Nevertheless, happy with my 84th place - there were more than 840 runners today, so to still be in top 10% is really satisfying for me!
I know I should have taken it really easy, but I didnโt push myself either, so while this was a 5/10 in terms of effort, it wasnโt exhaustingโฆ
First time doing Heaton Park for Parkrun and I can confirm that this is not the course for trying for a PB until you have really strong legs - the hills will kill you before that happens!

Heaton Park Parkrun - Pre-Marathon Shakeout!
Perfect way for me to re-energise the legs in the leadup to tomorrow!
Everything ready for Sunday - shitโs getting real, folksโฆ #manchestermarathon #marathonweekend ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Home for the weekend! #marathonweekend #manchestermarathon ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Still canโt believe that in 3 days Iโll be doing my first marathon in almost exactly a year - the nerves are kicking in a bit, but I know Iโve trained well so far, and this one will be fairly easy pace anyway. But in the meantime, carbs and restโฆ โค๏ธ๐ช
Tonight was also my first easy run with the revised HR zones - my max Zone 2 HR has gone lower, so it was interesting trying to maintain pace so I could still stay within Zone 2 as much as possible, and I was fairly successful on that frontโฆ
Not gonna lie - legs felt heavy tonight after last nightโs tempo session. But Iโm glad I did this one tonight instead of tomorrow, as it now gives me a couple of daysโ worth of rest - Iโll still do Parkrun on Saturday for my shakeoutโฆ

7.5km Easy Run with Runna โ
- Last Easy Run before Manchester!
adidas Stockholm Marathon Plan (Week 20/26)
7.5km easy run at a conversational pace (no faster than 5:20/km). This is a limit, not a target - run at whatever pace feels truly easy!
โ
Best rock power ballad ever!
Easy run in the next couple of days, plus Parkrun on Saturday for shake-out. And then Manchester marathon - my first marathon since London last year!
Getting exciting, but also a bit nervous at the same timeโฆ I know Iโve got this though โค๏ธ๐ช
High edge of 5/10 in terms of effort - one mile seems daunting, and it feels pressurised while youโre doing it, but before you know it, itโs over. And while it felt like a lot of effort at times, it wasnโt *challenging*, per se - the shoes definitely help plus the improvement of my overall fitness.
Last tempo training session before Manchester, and pretty much nailed it! Also the first session using my revised HR and pace zones based on the results from last nightโs threshold test - very interesting to see!
