Wonderful news. Congrats @waba.org

Every day can be a Souper Bowl Sunday if you have the right mindset....
In the literal thousand+ of headlines and articles like this that I've read and analyzed, I'm not sure I've seen one where they both mention the driver AND frame it like the car was a free agent. @calvinthigpen.com Did you see this one?
In my case, it'd be a busman's holiday, or, a slightly different flavor of weird.
Or just, y'know, fieldwork.
When your YIMBY ANC commissioner is running for Ward 1 Council 😍
Is that a full median to prevent left turns from Edgewood to 4th?
A good idea, but I hope it's well signed, or people (incl on bikes) are either going to hit or wildly dodge it...
Applying the language of business efficiency to public services makes as much sense as asking what animals have done for us lately in exchange for our care for their habitats.
🤷 consumer-grade, doesn't suck?
i'm not looking for anything special, i just want to be able to play (and rip) cds.
seeing as nobody else has cd players anymore either, being able to burn discs probably less important than the mix-disc days...
I'm still mildly disappointed that I didn't have the ability (or space, mostly) to inherit my grandfather's excellent stereo system, which instead of a cd carousel had a 6-disc flip-out kind of cassette thing. (Or maybe I just miss that weird thing.)
i do seriously have enough CDs to use one….
i kinda hate external peripherals, maybe because i tend to use my laptop, well, in my lap, and can barely keep even the power cable plugged into it. but maybe i should look again for a decent external optical drive (got any ideas?)
your post + @veleau-monica.bsky.social below made me wonder if they were somehow confused by the fact the election is two weeks later than two years ago—in 2024, early vote centers *did* open on Memorial Day weekend (but on Sunday, ofc; they were still closed on Monday…) dcboe.org/getmedia/1b6...
bring back cd/dvd drives!
tbf my first-gen MBP had a major issue that eventually made its optical drive unusable: a forward facing slot directly under the palmrest, which deformed over time until the slot was completely blocked. but the solution wasn't to just get rid of the damn thing....!
Most DC drivers aren't actually *seeking* our violent deaths. But an uncomfortably large fraction is solidly *indifferent* to our violent deaths.
Someday, with luck and hard work, she will have a name too.
... sometimes I think I might be living in the wrong city.
Weird, all I ever got was a migraine...
An ad for white wine "fresh from Oyster Bay" In tiny letters under "Oyster Bay" it says "New Zealand".
I have a memory like a steel sieve, but for some reason this post ⬆️ was still in there when I got this ad on the NYT crossword page this evening and was _rather_ confused for a moment...
That's *Old* English. Middle English is when he discovers Norman French ladies. Early Modern English is what their kids speak who have to translate for their parents and all their friends' parents.
Baltimore has had success in lowering crime by providing youth opportunities instead of relying on punitive measures. Why aren’t DC leaders interested in this? We should be learning from Baltimore and trying new approaches.
Reminder that $PLTR makes up about 1% of the NASDAQ 100 index.
If you have a 401K or other stock holdings, taking you cash out of the NASDAQ not only defunds gutter-racist creepy surveillance firm, it helps lessen your direct harm from the coming AI bubble burst.
Attention UPMC: maybe next time be brave and do the right thing. Reinstate gender affirming care now!
“You can't fire me, I quit!”
Gee, would any other DC Council members like to accidentally reveal they use resources if their office for their political campaigns....?
Photo of Pinto with Gretchen Wharton (older Black woman in sunglasses) to the left, and Shawn Townsend (Black man in a black t-shirt with a pink flower on it) to the right of her. Text: Dear Neighbor, We need a leader who doesn't hesitate to take action when she sees a crisis. That's Brooke Pinto. We're proud to endorse her campaign because she will bring new energy to lower skyrocketing housing costs and keep our longtime neighbors from being priced out of their homes. We've seen Brooke's leadership in action up close during her time as a Councilmember. There is no one better to fight for us in DC. We hope you'll join us in supporting her, Gretchen Wharton and Shawn Townsend
Second, the big highlight is a letter from her co-chairs, one of whom is the man behind the effort to rollback paid family leave (and I-82) in the District, RAMW’s Shawn Townsend. The women who Pinto’s counting on really like #PFL, so she better hope they don’t find out about that association.

Some things that stood out to me in this Brooke Pinto mailer we just got at our W4 home.
First, this jaw dropper: the return address for this campaign mailer is her COUNCIL address! 😳
i never understood why the bus was so far from Western Ave (especially since it *does* run on East Ohio…). And it's not like the Strip where Liberty's like 5 seconds away.
TBH the answer probably is, rather than try to draw people off the strip to get the bus, move the bus to where the people are….
As PGH's Allegheny Center Mall failed, it got turned into bank & telecom offices—and gradually AFAIK mostly data center.
~10y ago or so someone started trying to turn it back into (slightly fancier) tech offices & coworking spaces, but i left town around the same time so I don't know how it's gone.
Putting it out there... if any D.C. bar wants access to this livestream, we are coming up against the capacity limits of the library for this event in a way we didn't expect! Get in touch :)
"I told folks, this is the new Iowa State Fair," [Brooks Bike Bus organizer Stephanie] Lavey said. "If you want to be taken seriously in politics, you have to ride the bike."
